Welcome to Newton Abbot College

Thank you for considering Newton Abbot College for your Sixth Form studies.

Our Sixth Form continues to be the ‘Sixth Form of choice’ for both Newton Abbot College students and many others. The vast majority of our Year 11 students choose to continue their studies here at the College. They are joined by students from other schools and colleges from a geographically wide surrounding area and by international students; making up our thriving, exciting and dynamic Sixth Form of approximately 250 students.

We offer a wide range of courses: A levels; BTECs; Applied General Qualification courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3 and a Football and Coaching Academy. We believe that every individual will succeed when studying an appropriate course, supported by an experienced Tutor and a rigorous monitoring system, and receiving the highest quality training/ teaching.

Our mission here at Newton Abbot College is to inspire, support and challenge every individual to be better than they ever dreamt they could be. That is why we set incredibly high expectations of every member of our learning community. Set within an ethos of exceptional pastoral care and support, these high expectations enable our students to make great progress and achieve very positive outcomes.

We believe that our Sixth Form offers a wide range of opportunities for young people, which broadens their horizons, challenges them as individuals and encourages them to contribute to the College and wider community.

Facilities available

Sixth Form House has recently undergone major refurbishment, providing students with a large Common Room area in which to relax and work.

Other dedicated Sixth Form areas include the recently completed Media Studies Room, with editing suite ready computers, green screen facilities, HD cameras and sound recording equipment, and the College Café (for the sole use of Sixth Form students and staff members), serving hot and cold food and drinks from 8.00am.

Sixth Form students also make full use of the large modern Study Centre which provides access to ICT and is equipped with new multimedia resources and a constantly growing book selection. Important journals such as subject specific review magazines, Design Magazine, The Stage and Sight and Sound are also available.

However, the most important resource within the Study Centre is the staff, who go out of their way to support students with their work, including helping students find sources and materials for their studies.

Other facilities available to Sixth Form students include dedicated Hair and Beauty Salons, the Green Tree Restaurant, Creative Arts Centre, Art studios and IT suites.

In both the Common Room and the Study Centre there is always a positive, welcoming atmosphere where students can relax and carry out independent studies.

Additional support

Students benefit from excellent advice, guidance and support; not only from their Tutor, whom they see every day, but also from members of the dedicated, specialist Sixth Form team. Newton Abbot College Sixth Form has a continuous open door policy so that students can talk to a member of the Sixth Form team at any time. Help is always available.
