Welcome to Colston's Girls' School

Colston’s Girls’ School is one of the finest schools for girls in Bristol. We accept girls of all talents and abilities and pride ourselves on being culturally diverse, welcoming students of all faiths and backgrounds. Quality teaching and an inspired curriculum have ensured our place as the highest attaining non-selective school in the South West and our long history of outstanding achievement. Since 1891 generations of students, staff and parents have been proud to be a part of this vibrant, caring and highly successful learning community.

Our students are taught to be independent, curious and resourceful in their learning, to seek knowledge and opportunities and to achieve more than they ever thought possible. They are supported in their learning through the very best personalised teaching while mutual respect and responsibility lie at the heart of the school.

We have created a challenging, engaging and values led curriculum which focuses on the characteristics  and  habits that last a lifetime – curiosity, creativity, confidence,  ambition, resilience, optimism, responsibility  and emotional  intelligence.  The curriculum is enriched through Foreign Languages, Music, Sport and Drama and extended by way of numerous clubs and societies designed to stimulate and nourish intellectual curiosity.

Girls are encouraged to take on leadership roles, to actively seek to shape their own future and that of the school.

We are academically ambitious for each and every girl, but more importantly want them to grow as happy and fulfilled young women ready to lead and succeed in their chosen path, whatever that may be.

About us

Life for a Sixth Form student here at Colston’s Girls’ School is both enjoyable and stimulating. The atmosphere is more relaxed and informal as is the relationship with subject staff. The emphasis is on self-motivated, independent learning, developing new skills and taking a greater responsibility for your own work. These are all qualities that you will find invaluable for university study and your future career.

Our aim here at Colston’s Girls’ School is that every student will leave with a range of skills, interests and academic achievements which will form the basis of a happy and fulfilled life. Many of our students say that their time in the Sixth Form was the most enjoyable part of their school life and that they loved the extra responsibilities and privileges on offer.

At CGS we believe you can be anything you want to be and you will be encouraged to pursue your dreams and ambitions. As part of a small community you will learn confidence and the value of self-belief in the pursuit of success and fulfilment in whatever career you wish to follow.

You will be invited to attend talks by visiting speakers from many walks of life to help to give you a taste of all the varied opportunities open to you. A mentor will make sure you fulfil your potential without losing your sense of fun in life. Where do you want to be in five years?

The journey starts here…..

Facilities available

The Sixth Form students benefit from a Common Room, a resource room for private study and research and a café where students can go to chat and relax.

The Head Girl Team also has an office next to the Common Room. There are new library facilities and new and refurbished departmental areas and a garden where BBQs are held for the Sixth Form and guests.
