Welcome to The Sixth Form College Farnborough

The Sixth Form College Farnborough is a wonderful place to work and study!  The values of the College - achievement, care, development of the individual, progression - are captured in the Mission Statement:

‘to be a distinguished provider of the highest quality education, enriching the lives of all students within a lively, caring community and enabling all to develop the skills to meet the demands of a changing world with confidence.’

It is one of the top performing sixth form colleges in the country, committed to building upon its outstanding reputation. At Farnborough, we have one shared objective for all staff: to improve students’ achievements. We are recognised nationally for innovation in both teaching and learning. Students are engaged in their subjects by talented teachers, inspired to enjoy studying in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support.

We like our students here, and seek to work with them to gain success. All our students are full time, 16-19 year olds. Whilst we are a large sixth form college, at Farnborough we know the importance of counting in ones! Central to the ethos is pastoral support through a team of specialist Personal Tutors, all experienced and successful teachers.

In addition to their studies, College students participate in a range of enrichment activities. Excellent sports facilities enable College teams and individuals to compete at county and national level; there is a rich tradition of performing arts based at the Prospect Theatre, with strong music, dance and drama. The Student Association committee oversees a large number of clubs and societies, providing an important opportunity for leadership and team-work.

We are an ambitious college, with high aspirations for students and ourselves. I am proud to be the Principal of an establishment which inspires and challenges young people. It is our hope that the College provides a big space in which our students can grow tall; a place in which the ordinary can become extraordinary.

About us

The College enjoys a longstanding reputation as a leader in the development of good practice in Advanced level teaching and learning. Our work and research has informed changes to 14 - 19 qualifications, feeding into several Governmental advisory groups. For example, the College was at the forefront of developing the Extended Project Qualification as well as the pilot for assessing the suitability of the A* grade at A level.

We are now also part of the national ‘Maths Hub’ initiative tasked with disseminating best practice in the teaching of mathematics.

The wide choice of subjects available at Advanced level is a major strength of the College and our system of recognising and recording enrichment activities is valued by students, employers and universities.

Facilities available

Participating in sport, music, performing arts, joining a club or volunteering outside of your academic programme is a great way of meeting new people, whilst also gaining important transferable skills.

From Street Dance to Politics, Environmental Society to Japanese and Korean Society, there should be something to suit everyone. There are currently more than 40 student-led activities taking place every week.

Additional support

We follow procedures which help identify and address individual learning needs. Appropriate support sessions are arranged for those with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia and support is provided for those with ASD.

Great care is taken to support students with sensory impairments or physical disabilities. If you have any special needs, you should inform the Curriculum Manager for Study Support as early as possible, so that we can understand your individual requirements and make all reasonable adjustments to help you succeed.

The College has a Health and Wellbeing Manager, two trained Nurses and five trained Counsellors and we maintain close links with outside agencies, ensuring that you have access to appropriate support services.
