Welcome to John Leggott Sixth Form College

Hello and welcome to John Leggott College. I’m delighted that you have chosen to consider JLC for the next stage of your education. We will look forward to getting to know you and setting you on the road to great success.

We have a fantastic culture here at the college; one of high achievement, personalised support and life-changing opportunities. The stats speak for themselves, with over 460 students progressing onto Russell Group universities in 2015, accounting for over half of our graduates and over 550 students participating in regular work experience, totalling over 45,000 hours. We are the best performing provider in the region, comfortably surpassing other colleges and schools with our pass rates and high grades. This year, I am proud to say that we have been ranked in the top 10% of all AS course providers nationally for the quality of teaching and the progress that our students make.

But we are not just all about results. Your success will be built upon how we support you to excel and reach your full potential. We will make your time at JLC individual to you and we will give you the skills and experience to get ahead in life. This prospectus gives you a glimpse into how we do this.

I’m proud to be a part of this college and you will be too. I look forward to you joining us in September.

David Vasse, Principal

Our new ARC is a key facility within the college for students who want to work independently. It is open plan, Wi-Fi enabled and set up perfectly for either private study or collaborative group work. The mentoring team will always be on hand to support students whenever they need help with their academic work.

The Portal

Our open access IT centre ofers fxed computers available on a drop in basis, a netbook loan service and plenty of space for students to use their own devices.

Additional support

We have several diferent bursary schemes in college that students can access if they have collegerelated costs or fnd themselves in fnancial hardship. This includes a specifc 19+ bursary, and various trust funds, so we can provide fnancial support if you need it.

Our mentoring system gives you someone to speak to about any issues you may be having at college and also helps to support you through difcult times. Mentors can act as a link between students, parents and teachers when any problems arise and help to resolve these issues before they have a serious impact on your progress. Mentors also arrange and deliver group sessions around important things you need to know throughout the year so they form an important part of college life.

Another role of the mentors is to oversee how you build up your employability skills, preparing you for progression, and ensuring that you are taking advantage of the right opportunities during your time at college to allow you to access your preferred options once you have fnished JLC. We call this our Fit For Your Future programme and it starts on day one.

Learning Support

The SENCo and Learning Support Assistant (LSA) team work closely with students and teachers to ensure that you are as successful as you can be at college, both academically and personally. The LSAs can provide in-class support, revision help, tailored resources to suit your learning style and also personal support such as confdence building, developing your social skills and creating techniques that you can use in the future to help make you more independent.

Learner success

We have consistently outstanding results, with the pass rate for A Levels being over 99% and BTEC courses having a 100% success rate. In addition to this, around half of grades achieved by our students are high grades, A*-B.

We are ranked as one of the very best colleges in the UK for the progress that students make in the year after GCSE. (This means students are exceeding their predicted grades based upon their GCSE results.)
