Welcome to Davenant Foundation School

Davenant Foundation School has over 1100 students, about 340 of whom are in the Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form is one of the most successful in Essex, last year 59% of the A Levels our Year 13 students sat achieved A*- B grades. The Sixth Form is based in a modern, purpose-built Sixth Form Centre with a dedicated Sixth Form Library and Resource Centre. Apart from academic excellence we also offer our students unrivalled extra- curricular and leadership opportunities.

We are a very successful school at GCSE and most of our Year 11 students carry on into the Sixth Form. Even so, between a third and half of our intake each year comes to us from other neighbouring schools. We believe we are a very welcoming place. Our new students quickly make friends and involve themselves fully in the life of the school. Many of our most successful students each year have joined Davenant after Year 11, some achieving the prestigious position of Head Boy or Girl.

There is a dedicated team who support and care for the Sixth Form students, helping to ensure their success. The Head of Sixth Form is Mr David Parker. He leads the team of tutors and is responsible for the running of the Sixth Form Centre. He monitors the behaviour and academic progress of the Sixth Form students.

Assistant Heads of Sixth Form are Mrs Katie Doherty and Mr Andrew Midgley. They deputise for Mr Parker and have specific responsibility for the students’ pastoral care in Years 12 and 13.

There are 16 vertical tutor groups comprising Years 12 and 13 in Sixth Form. The Tutor acts as the students’ mentor, meeting with them twice a day during registration. The tutors encourage their students to become active in the school’s extra-curricular programme and keep a close eye on their general progress. They are also the first point of contact for all causes for concern. This vertical system also allows experienced Year 13 students, many of whom were new to the school 12 months before, to support and guide new Year 12 students.

The Head of Careers Education Guidance is Mrs Judith Ball. She operates the Careers Library and guides all Sixth Form students through the employment and university application processes together with Form Tutors and Head of Sixth Form. Her administrative assistant is Mrs Susie Williams. 85% or more of our students progress to university after their A Levels each year.

The Sixth Form Manager is Mrs Ellen Buck. She handles all applications on to courses, manages students’ timetables, Young Persons Learning Allowance Bursary Fund, also assists with student support and pastoral care and deals with general queries. Mrs Sharon Bird, our Sixth Form Librarian is responsible for the resource centre and ensures quiet study in the library at all times.
