Welcome to William De Ferrers School

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the William de Ferrers School website. We are an over-subscribed, co-educational converter academy at the heart of its community and committed to providing an outstanding education for each and every student.

We strive to identify and develop the strengths of all our students. High standards of work, attitude, behaviour and appearance are demanded, and our aim is for all students to achieve highly in different aspects of school life.

I make no apology for the fact that we expect all our students to engage with a rigorous academic curriculum and achieve highly. We believe that all young people can be successful at school if they are taught well, apply themselves and give of their best.

We are conscious of our position and role within the local community. To this end, we are committed to establishing and strengthening ties with all areas of the local community and developing positive relationships with the many primary schools within our natural catchment area and beyond. Our students achieve high levels of success in national examinations, with GCSE and A Level results being about the national average.

However, a good education is not just about academic success alone, but also about giving students the opportunities to develop their skills through a wide range of different activities. Many arise from the fact that we are a Specialist Sports College, as well as through the interests and commitment of our staff who give their all in ensuring that all our young people feel valued and achieve highly at school.

For a child or young person to benefit fully from the education on offer, the school must work closely and in partnership with parents/carers. In working together with parents we are able to ensure that our students achieve high standards and realise their goals and aspirations.

I look forward to welcoming you to the William de Ferrers School.

Neal McGowan
