Welcome to Luton Sixth Form College

Welcome! We hope you will enjoy what we have to offer here on the website as we believe it will provide you with a very good impression of the life and work of the vibrant community that is Luton Sixth Form College.

We were the first Sixth Form College to be established in England, back in 1966. There are approximately 95 similar colleges and, as a whole, they are considered to be one of the jewels in the crown of the English education system.

This college ranks among the best in many ways. We offer a very broad curriculum, consisting of more than 40 A Levels and 20 BTEC courses. In addition to the main qualifications, we have a very full range of enrichment qualifications, opportunities and activities available to help our students enhance their experience and prospects. All of this takes place within a wonderful campus that is just three years old now and provides our students with the most modern facilities and resources available.

We hope you will be able to use this website to learn more about the college and if are you considering applying to study here in 2014/15, the information here will help you decide whether we have the right course to help you with career plans.

Our exam results improved overall in 2013 and nearly 1,000 students left with qualifications that enabled them to progress to university and into high quality employment. Approximately 75 per cent of our students go on to study at universities around the country, and about 100 are accepted every year at elite institutions known as the Russell Group Universities.

The excellent achievement of our students is due to the huge amount of dedication and effort put in by our very experienced and high quality staff and by our students. We have specialist staff available to provide guidance and support and we greatly value the involvement of parents in helping the young people here to achieve their full potential.

College life is quite different from school and brings with it more freedom and more responsibility, too. We believe that it provides excellent preparation for higher education or the world of work. The students here are provided with everything they need to achieve the very best qualifications but there is so much more available to them to enable them to learn new skills, enjoy new experiences and to become the leaders of the future.

Additional support

Information Centre

The Information Centre is open throughout the day and can help you identify the appropriate service or advisor you need, as well as how to find them. They are able to provide information and advice on a wide variety of academic and support services, including attendance monitoring, Student Support Scheme, travel and any other queries. They will also be able to provide advice on our new Weekly Payment Scheme.

Personal Tutor / Student Manager

Your Personal Tutor’s first role is to help you settle in and make the most of your time at college. You will meet your Personal Tutor once or twice a week and he/she will guide you through your course and follow your progress. You will be encouraged to take opportunities to develop your skills and become an independent thinker. Personal Tutors also work closely with parents and are supported by a Student Manager, who will have overall responsibility for your welfare and progress throughout your course.

Consultation Events for Students and Parents/Guardians

The college stages consultation events twice during the academic year. If we feel there are any concerns regarding a student's progress, parents/guardians will be invited to come and discuss issues with staff.
