Welcome to Nunthorpe Academy

Choosing where to go after your GCSEs is a big thing: it’s the first time you really get to choose what the next step in your education will be and where you will go. We think that Nunthorpe Sixth Form is a perfect environment for post-16 learning and with both A-Levels and BTECs on offer you can be sure that you can find the mixture of subjects to suit you.

We can’t deny that there is quite a big jump from GCSE to A Level, but the sixth form bridging programme, including induction days in the summer term and work for over the holiday, really helps you to make that leap. Although it might not sound too appealing now, a summer Maths assessment or pre-course reading for English really helps you hit the ground running in September!

There is a larger focus on independent study in sixth form and with a modern building specifically designed for use as a sixth form we have plenty of areas for working. On the ground floor there are several large tables which are ideal for if you want to work alongside your friends or if you prefer silent independent study there are tables and computers upstairs in the designated silent study area. Group work is facilitated for in the student group rooms, which are rooms about a third of the size of a classroom and designed specifically for discussion – particularly useful for group revision!

Although a lot more is expected of you at sixth form academically, you get a lot more attention from teachers due to smaller class sizes and spending more hours per week in each subject’s lessons. Many subjects also use one-to-one meetings as a way of tracking progress and you get regular feedback on your work.
