Welcome to Maricourt Catholic High School

As we enter a changing and challenging new phase of post-16 education, the Sixth Form at Maricourt Catholic High School confidently maintains an exciting and varied curriculum as well as stimulating activities out of the classroom. If you choose to join our Sixth Form we will help you to achieve your potential, in whatever field that might be.

We are very proud of the fact that so many of our students choose to continue their education at Maricourt on completion of their GCSE courses and we are also pleased to welcome students from other schools, who wish to benefit from the fantastic opportunities Maricourt offers. Maricourt has a tradition of achieving excellent results and high progression rates to University. In 2016, the majority of students left to study at their chosen university, including Durham, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool and Nottingham, where they studied a wide range of subjects, including Law, Engineering, Neuroscience, Medicinal Chemistry and Politics. Those that chose a vocational route progressed on to quality apprenticeships, such as BAE.

We offer a wide choice of 22 A Level and Vocational subjects, all of which are taught by specialist staff. Vocational courses in Business Studies, Sport and Health Studies are also available as double options. Our students value the careers education, information, advice and guidance on offer to them, enabling a successful transition into university, training or employment.

Students are supported by teaching and learning that is of the highest quality, and by the academic and pastoral support of a team of experienced personal tutors, providing one-to-one guidance. We have also extended the study facilities for the Sixth Form, including a dedicated study area and new computers which are available from 8.00am to 5.30pm every day.

However, our Sixth Form is about more than academic excellence. It is a welcoming and inclusive environment where each student continues to be known and valued as an individual and is encouraged to develop their unique talents to the full in the service of others. Sixth Form students play a full part in the wider life of the school as prefects, members of the School Council and guides and ambassadors during open evenings, school performances and parent evenings.
Academic study is significantly enhanced by an extensive programme of enrichment activities, educational visits and work experience placements, which are highly valued by our students.

Our students are capable of great things, and this demands hard work, self-discipline and a high level of personal commitment. As a school Sixth Form, with a dedicated and expert pastoral team, we can provide the structures and support which students need to cultivate these qualities which will lead to success, both in school and in the world of work.
