Welcome to Southport College

At Southport College our aim is to prepare our students for their chosen career. We offer excellent teaching and support, a town centre location, first-class facilities and a commitment from every member of staff to help our students succeed. In fact, the majority of our students move straight into employment or go on to university following completion of their studies at Southport College.

To ensure that our students leave us as well-rounded individuals we enhance our courses by providing many additional opportunities including work placements or work experience, the chance to take part in sports teams or activities, volunteering, trips and special events.

As a 16 year-old the range of options available to you when you leave school can seem overwhelming.

Our Student Guidance team is available to contact for careers and course advice should you need it. And if you have never visited Southport College before, you are very welcome to visit us at one of our open events or taster days to see how we can help shape your future.

I do hope that this publication inspires you to join the thousands of other students who choose to take their next step with us each year and I very much look forward to welcoming you at Southport College.

Facilities available

Art and Design

Our facilities for Art and Design are amongst the best in the North West. We have bright and airy studios with plenty of natural light and Apple iMacs so you can get to grips with industry standard software. What’s more, we also have a 3D printer so you can print injection moulded plastic models from your own designs.

Fitness Suite

We have a well-equipped Fitness Suite packed with gym equipment, cardio machines and free weights for Southport College students to use free of charge.

Library Learning Centres

The College has four library learning centres, each kitted out with laptops, computers, DVDs and books so you can study on your own or in a group. The learning centres are staffed throughout the year too, so if you have questions about how to use the eLearning materials someone is on hand to help.

Performing Arts

Our Performing Arts centre cost over £2.5 million and includes dance studios, rehearsal rooms and a recording studio. Students get to perform in the 100+ seat theatre at least twice a year.

Our Science department has recently expanded to include a brand new additional science laboratory that will benefit students on both Applied Science and Forensic Science courses.

The Oasis

Our student restaurant The Oasis is open for use during your breaks and serves a variety of healthy snacks and tasty treats. Meals start at a very reasonable price and we even have our own coffee bar serving Starbucks coffee.

University Centre

You can study for a degree at Southport College in our University Centre. This dedicated learning space has its own private study areas and facilities.

£2.6 million transformation of Tony Leigh building

This project is set to provide our students with some of the best and most modern learning environments in the region as well as improving our restaurant and salon facilities. The project spans five floors and includes a completely new restaurant interior, improved hair & beauty salons and unique learning spaces for Childcare and Health & Social Care students which include simulated nurseries and hospital bays. In addition, students studying Engineering, Motor Vehicle Repair and IT courses will all benefit from improved learning spaces over the next few years.
