Welcome to Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School
The Sixth Form provides a caring, supportive environment where individuals matter. We aim to develop in all of our learners a keen sense of responsibility, a desire for the acquisition of knowledge and the amibition to succeed in their lives today and in years to come. We offer a very rich, flexible and challenging curriculum to all of our Sixth Form students as well as extensive opportunities for enrichment.
We pride ourselves in the strong sense of commaraderie across the whole learning community, which makes our school environment a wonderful and unique place to attend daily. The mutual respect between our students and staff is evident in the warm, welcoming atmosphere that visitors often remark upon.
We offer excellent facilities, highly motivated and passionate staff, established support networks and a caring environment. This enables our students to achieve their potential whilst preparing them for further study or employment post 19.
Although located separately to the main school, the Sixth Form still benefits from the skills and subject expertise of over 100 staff and has full use of further specialist facilities within the main school. With over 200 students in the Sixth Form, it is possible to offer a broad range of courses and experiences.
Thank you for your interest in Cardinal Heenan Sixth Form.

The Sixth Form Centre at Cardinal Heenan was built on the Broughton Hall High School Campus in 2012. It has easy access from the main Cardinal Heenan site. The centre is a beautifully lit, purpose-built structure for sixth form students. The centre provides classrooms, study areas, and catering facilities for the use of sixth form students only. The study area is a huge asset to the Sixth Form. It is an extensive, light and open area where students can work quietly either invididually or in small groups.
For those students that are considering applying to university there are bookshelves full of university prospectuses, and a designated UCAS board which provides a lot of useful information about the application process.
The Sixth Form cafeteria is another very extensive space on the ground floor of the Sixth Form Centre. Despite its label as a cafeteria, it is, in fact, a multi-functional area within Sixth Form and is very much the hub of Cardinal Heenan Sixth Form life. It is also home to our catering area - hot and cold food and drinks are served from 8am until late afternoon by our designated sixth form catering assistants. There are notice boards in the cafeteria which provide students with information on the Student Council, and upcoming events.
The jump between KS4 and KS5 is generally accepted to be hardest jump students take in their education. That is why we have developed a comprehensive pastoral system of care and guidance. You will have an allocated mentor who has developed specific skills to assist you in settling into sixth form and coping with the changes in the way that you learn and the expectations of you. You will also have a form tutor who will support this process as well as help you with future university and job applications.
Sometimes students need financial support to enable them to maximise their opportunities at sixth form. Burseries are available from the school to support students experiencing financial hardship. Applications for funding are made directly to the school.
We recognise that Sixth Form study is just the next step on your educational journey, whether your goal is moving onto university or into work. Therefore, results matter. In Cardinal Heenan Sixth Form you can be assured that we will work with you to get the best possible results.
In summer 2016, an impressive 56% of our Year 13 students achieved at least B grades at A Level and all of our A Level students secured at least a pass in summer 2016.
