We see ourselves as a school community committed to excellence, creativity and innovation. We encourage participation in a wide range of educational and life enriching activities, celebrating success in many varied ways. The ultimate aim is to help all students prepare to take maximum advantage of life long learning experiences in further education and careers, establishing themselves as responsible members of the community and beyond. By focussing on maintaining high expectations and relationships, fostering a positive ethos, providing a broad and stimulating curriculum and embedding the school at the core of the community, we aim to provide young people with a valuable and fulfilling experience of school life.

Facilities available

Learning Resources Centre

All students can take advantage of the facilities on offer in the Learning Resources Centre. The main aim of the Centre is to provide students with a centralised range of resources to satisfy educational learning. The Centre holds an extensive ICT Suite with internet access. The Centre is open throughout the day. At breaktimes and lunchtimes it is staffed to give students the opportunity to research projects and utilise the computer facilities on offer. The Learning Resources Centre aims to support students throughout their school life, allowing them to study and research in a peaceful, relaxed and comfortable environment. When available, opportunities to attend After School Club will be advertised to pupils. When starting at Llantwit Major School, each student can apply for a library card which enables them to access the resources of all Vale of Glamorgan Libraries. In addition, pupils can access a range of online reading and reference materials 24 hours of the day, free of charge.

Additional support

Pastoral Organisation, School Classes and Groupings

Registration classes are of mixed ability, and are identified by the initials of the Form Tutor after the Year number. Support teaching is given to some pupils in certain curricular areas by using a Learning Support assistant in the class. Having responsibility for year groups are the Leaders of Key Stage. They are concerned with the well-being of pupils in the year group and keep a watching brief over both academic and social development. Pupils who are not progressing as well as they should be, again both academically and socially, will be referred to the leaders of Key Stage by the Form Tutor or Head of Department.

Health Care Staff

The School has on its full-time staff fully trained personnel for administering First Aid.
