Your study programme will be built around you, your individual needs and your career ambitions. Additionally you will develop a range of work and personal skills to equip you for success for the rest of your life – as well as a set of unforgettable memories.

At King George V College our mission is to value our learners and build their futures. We place students at the heart of everything we do and that is why our students leave College so well prepared for their next steps, whether that be University or employment.

By choosing to study at KGV you will receive inspirational teaching and outstanding support, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a wealth of extra opportunities that will enhance your studies.

Facilities available

Our students have access to multimillion pound state of the art facilities including specialist teaching rooms, several food outlets and comfortable social spaces offering an ideal environment for both study and relaxation.

In summer 2015, KGV opened the doors of our new £4million Creative Arts Building. The new building offers bespoke facilities for the Creative Arts subjects: Art & Design (Fine Art, Textiles and Photography), Drama and Theatre, Film Studies, Media Studies, Music and Music Technology.

Facilities include: a grand performance theatre with retractable seating accommodating up to 120 people, four custom-made art studios, a recording studio and several rehearsal rooms, and new Film and Media studios. In addition, the building accommodates a number of IT suites and several large general teaching spaces, plus the performance theatre also doubles as a lecture space, ensuring that all students will benefit from the new facilities.

Our Learning Centre (LC) offers an impressive workspace for your independent study. The LC, which recently underwent a £1.2 million facelift, houses an extensive collection of online and paper resources, in addition to over 100 computer stations and both private and social study rooms. A hive of activity, this is the ideal place for you to get ahead with homework, coursework or extra reading.

The College Canteen is a comfortable social space for you to relax and refuel. Our onsite facilities include a hot food counter, deli, salad bar, Starbucks and snack shop. You can pick up a slice of pizza, grab a snack on the go or indulge in an early morning caffeine kick at Starbucks!

Students will have access to a fully equipped Fitness Suite, which is open during term time. This facility is free for staff and students to enjoy.

Additional support

At KGV, we welcome applications from students with learning difficulties/disabilities and aim to make your transition from school to College as smooth as possible. We believe in a policy of inclusive learning whereby all students with learning difficulties and disabilities are taught in mainstream classes but are offered additional support, appropriate to their needs and wishes, so that they can participate fully in College activities.

Our Learning Support Team is made up of specialist Learning Support Tutors and Facilitators, who have a positive and proactive working relationship with all staff across the College. Our services include a Learning Support Centre fully equipped with specialist facilities for students including computer software programmes and surface tablets (available on loan. Individual exam arrangements can be made for students, where appropriate dependent on identified need, evidence and application to the exam board.

We aim to be flexible in order to support students with permanent or temporary difficulties or disabilities and we will make every effort to make your time at College happy, enjoyable and successful.

When applying to the College, we encourage students to be completely open about any learning support needs and to supply as much information as possible. This will ensure that that we can respond to your individual needs in the best way.

Learning Support is here to help students with learning difficulties and disabilities realise their individual potential whilst studying at the College and progress on to employment or Higher Education.

Learner success

Our results are over 5.5% above the national rates for post-16 advanced level providers. In Summer 2016 our students achieved:

  • 99.7% A Level pass rate with 81% of grades at A*-C
  • 56% of our students achieved the highest possible grades of A*-B
  • In total, our 2016 leavers were awarded 153 A* or A grades at A Level
  • 33 of our A Level subjects had 100% pass rate
  • 100% BTEC pass rate with 97% of students achieving a Distinction or above
  • 70% of BTEC students were awarded triple Distinction*

Results like these mean that many of our students have free choice over which University they choose to progress to. This year, 89% of students went on to study at their first choice University and five students moved on to begin a degree at Oxford or Cambridge University. They join an elite group of twelve KGV alumni who are currently reading degrees in Medicine, French, Law, Classics and Biological Sciences (to name a few) at these prestigious universities.
