Welcome to Sacred Heart Catholic High School

When our foundress, St Madeleine Sophie Barat was nearing the end of her mission to educate girls in 1800, she said that she would have founded the Society of the Sacred Heart 'for the sake of one child' and in many ways this simple message still encapsulates our school today. We see each and every girl as a unique individual with talents and gifts we must nurture and develop in the years she spends as part of our community.

The symbol on our school badge is an open heart which perfectly represents the love, care and commitment we will show to each student. Ultimately, we want your daughter to enjoy her time at school and leave fully equipped to embrace her future life as a confident, responsible young woman with a strong sense of self-worth and ambition for her future.

Our examination results are continually excellent and place us in the top 3% of similar schools in the country for G.C.S.E. In 2013, 75% of girls achieved five good G.C.SE.s including English and Mathematics with 32% of these grade A/A*. Nationally only 1 in 5 grades are A and A*, amongst girls this rises to 1 in 4, but at Sacred Heart it has been consistently 1 in 3. Indeed, in 2013, almost 1 in 5 girls at Sacred Heart achieved more than 8 A or A*. At A level last year, 53% of grades were A to B and 27% were A to A*. There was a 100% pass rate. Everyone at Sacred Heart works tirelessly and expertly with every girl to ensure we continue to excel in public examinations, not for the sake of league tables but to enable each and every one of our students to achieve their dreams and ambitions.

As a school we enjoy good relationships between home and school, setting the highest standards of behaviour and work ethic with strong parental support. Because, by working together we will ensure the best outcomes for all students. We have a team of dedicated pastoral staff who become familiar with every single girl in their care, understanding their needs and ensuring every effort is made to support their development both academically and as people. Several information systems are also provided to enable parents and carers to see how their daughter is progressing and these are easily accessible from home.

At Sacred Heart we seek to develop the whole child and so provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to experience. Our specialism in Performing Arts means students can access fabulous facilities for Music, Dance and Drama. We also provide access to many sporting activities and our girls participate in trips to places such a Morocco and Uganda, often to support charitable causes. As a Teaching School our highly talented staff share their expertise with colleagues in neighbouring schools, but more importantly it is the girls at Sacred Heart who benefit from their outstanding teaching skills.

A great education has the power to transform lives, and this precious gift is one you can be confident that our hard working and talented staff will tirelessly strive to give to your daughter every day and in every lesson. As with the four remarkable women who came together in the 1800s to establish the Society of Sacred Heart School, we share their burning desire to educate and prepare young women to take their place in the world with, purpose, enthusiasm and strength of character.
