About us

City of Bristol College is one of the largest further and higher education colleges in the UK.

With more than 1,000 courses available from entry to degree level, we offer the widest range of academic and vocational qualifications you will find in the South West.

We cater for learners of all ages and backgrounds, including 16 to 18-year-olds, adult learners, apprentices, higher education students and international students.

Based in four main centres across Bristol, we offer a learning experience that puts our students right at the heart of one of the best cities in the UK.

 

Facilities available

Study Centres

You'll find a Study Centre at each of our main College centres.

In the Study Centres you can find books, journals, DVDs, computers, laptops and electronic resources to support your studies.  

These learning spaces provide a relaxed environment in which to study, with knowledgeable, friendly staff on hand to help you with enquiries.

 

Salons

We operate two Academy Salons, located across Bristol:

  • Academy Salon @ Ashley Down
  • Academy Salon @ South Bristol

Open to the public, each salon is fully equipped to create a professional environment in which our students can train whilst customers feel relaxed and pampered.

 

Workshops and Composites Centre

Practical experience is crucial in preparing our students for entry into industry careers. Our modern, well-stocked workshops offer students hands-on experience using the best equipment and cutting-edge technology available. All of our workshops offer a safe working environment that is regularly audited both internally and externally:

  • Aeronautical engineering
  • Construction and wet trades
  • Engineering
  • Motor

 

Creative, Media and Specialist Facilities

​Our specialist facilities offer the best in new creative and media technology, including:

  • Digital editing suite
  • Graphics suite
  • Multimedia Mac suite
  • Photographic studios

  • Art and fashion studios
  • Theatrical make up studios
  • Bookable cameras

Our other specialist facilities include:

Restaurants

We operate two restaurants across Bristol:

  • Academy Brasserie, Hengrove at South Bristol Skills Academy (SBSA), BS14 0DB
  • City Restaurant, Anchor Road, College Green Centre, BS1 5UA

Our restaurants offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, offering a coffee and lunch service.

 

Prayer Rooms

Each of our main College centres have dedicated prayer rooms, which can be used by students and staff for religious observance.

    • Situated in the city centre, this College centre is right next to College Green, the harbourside, and Park Street. Facilities at the centre include:

      • Training kitchen and restaurant
      • Creative and media studios

      College Green Centre is home to our Sixth Form Academy, with around 1,200 full-time students studying vocational qualifications. There are also around 400 A Level students based here.

      Courses available for adult learners include:

      • Job seekers – including ESOL, employability and vocational training
      • Professional IT and business training for adults
      • Foundation Degrees in subjects such as Photography, Graphic Design and Media

      There are plenty of trips, events and sporting activities to help you make friends and make the most out of College.

      And the central location means you’re never far from amenities such as the Watershed, At-Bristol, M Shed, Central Library and Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

      There are two City of Bristol College buildings that form the Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC) at Parkway.

      Parkway Centre

      The Parkway Building is situated off New Road next to SGS College/WISE Campus and Abbeywood Community School.

      AEC Centre

      The AEC Building is also situated off New Road, between Abbeywood Community School and the BTE Academy approximately 300 yards from the Parkway Centre.

      Our state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC) brings together our College’s existing engineering, aeronautical, manufacturing and automotive courses into one place.

      It provides great industry facilities including workshops, laboratories, computer aided simulation rigs and testing/diagnostic equipment.

      The centre provides students with the latest technology and uses the highest standard of the latest industry equipment, including:

      • A vehicle brake testing station
      • An on-site commercial jet aircraft
      • 3D printing
      • Advanced CAD modelling software
      • Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines

      Aeronautical facilities

    • South Bristol Skills Academy (SBSA) opened in 2010 as our flagship centre, serving the south of Bristol. Impressively big on the outside, inside you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and a flexible, open-plan learning environment.

      Facilities

      The award-winning eco-friendly building is home to a range of fantastic facilities including:

      • Horticultural areas

      Students can borrow laptops from the Study Centre, enjoy the café facilities and make good use of the large open spaces available, with Wi-fi available throughout the building.
