Welcome to Oldfield School
Oldfield School has a long-held reputation for academic excellence, built upon the skills and dedication of our highly qualified and experienced staff. We are justly proud of the high quality education we provide, having been commended by Ofsted on our inspirational teaching and learning, excellent behaviour in lessons and around school and the excellent academic achievement of our students.
We are lucky to be situated in a beautiful, semi-rural setting in the city of Bath and this inspiring location lends itself to our task of developing our students both academically and in other ways. We have a strong focus on extra-curricular activities, an established Duke of Edinburgh programme and a strong commitment to the creative arts. We also run a large variety of domestic and overseas school trips in subjects across the curriculum.
At Oldfield School we aim to work in partnership with students and parents to raise students' expectations and standards of achievement in a caring, secure and supportive environment. We value enormously the links between school and home; success being built on a strong partnership.
I very much hope that you will find within this website something of the quality of Oldfield School; its emphasis on high standards, its well-disciplined environment and its care for all students.
I am looking forward to leading the school in the interim period between now and when we are joined by our new Headteacher Steven Mackay in September, and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure we have a smooth and stable transition. I am more than happy to make the time available to speak to either prospective or existing parents should you have any queries regarding the school, and you are, of course, very welcome to visit the school.
Here at Oldfield we have three key aims for all our Sixth Form students:
1. Academic Success
We want to ensure that all students leave Oldfield Sixth Form with the very best results they can achieve. Already our results are outstanding and students achieve the very highest academic results: 58% of the A level exams taken in 2013 were passed at an A*to B grade and 26% were passed at A*/A. This is a strength we will be keen to build on and exceed. Our highly trained, specialist staff are a key pillar to this success.
2. Guidance and Support
Sixth Form studies carry their own pressures and stresses. Here at Oldfield we strive to ensure that students are well supported, positive and enthusiastic learners. They meet daily with their highly experienced tutors and as Head of Sixth Form I have an open door policy where any student can come to see me to talk through concerns and worries. We also run a well developed career and higher education guidance programme so that whatever you want to do post A levels, there will be events, talks and workshops to answer your questions and meet your needs.
3. The Wider Community
At Oldfield Sixth Form students are fully involved in the wider school community and have the opportunity to engage with a wealth of opportunities above and beyond the classroom. Our aim is to foster independence and critical thinking, allowing students to become that well rounded, educated person who goes on to play a positive role in our society. So whether you want to be part of our highly successful Duke of Edinburgh programme; play an active role in the Sixth Form Committee; take part in sporting, cultural and scientific clubs and events or help and support students throughout the school, we have something to suit all ambitions. Expect to have a busy and rewarding time here at Oldfield Sixth Form!
Our aim is to foster independence and critical thinking, allowing students to become that well rounded, educated person who goes on to play a positive role in our society. There are excellent working relationships between staff and students on Sixth Form courses. The vast majority of our students highlight the support they receive from staff both in and out of lessons as being extremely valuable.
The cornerstone of every school is its academic success and students at Oldfield School Sixth Form have a long and prestigious history of achieving fantastic results.
We pride ourselves on our small classes, close working relationships between staff and students and the drive and determination of our specialist teachers in ensuring every student reaches their full potential.
