Welcome to The Piggott School

The new Sixth Form Block, which opened summer 2012, is already having a positive impact on everyone – students have space to work effectively, there is a distinction between areas for study and socialising and many colleagues have new office space, storage facilities and an environment conducive to excellent teaching and learning.

In the Sixth Form at The Piggott School we believe in getting the best out of every student, developing and encouraging each individual to fulfil his or her potential.

In the Sixth Form at the Piggott School we believe in enabling each of you to achieve your best, by developing and encouraging you to fulfil your ambition and to develop your skills to the maximum. We hope to enthuse you, challenge you and support you during some of the most stimulating and enjoyable years of your education; in return we expect hard work, your enthusiasm and a desire to always give of your best.

The Piggott School Sixth Form has grown considerably over the last few years as a consequence of our reputation for providing a successful, well-rounded education for all our students. We offer a range of subjects at A level, Level 2 + 3 vocational and the VRQ coaching programme. Standards are high and our results are excellent. Students are expected to be committed to their studies. Equally, we are committed to providing you with first-class teaching and learning and care, guidance and support.

Staff and Governors at the Piggott School are very proud of our Sixth Form and committed to its future success, which we demonstrate by the large share of resources invested in the teaching of the post-16 courses. Whilst our ethos is traditionally academic, with the majority of our students following AS and A Level courses, tailored Level 2 and 3 vocational courses have developed significantly in recent years to meet the increasingly varied needs of our students.

Numbers in the Sixth Form are very healthy. We currently have 130 students in Year 13 and 126 in Year 12 and we expect these numbers to grow over the coming years due to the size of our year groups in the lower school, higher stay-on rates and the increasing numbers who join the Sixth Form from other state and independent providers. The Sixth Form is large enough to be able to offer a wide range of courses and yet small enough to provide a caring, friendly environment.

Our Sixth Form is not solely about the classroom. Extra-Curricular activities play a vital role in the life of our Sixth Form. We expect you to participate, to be both a leader and a team player, to support others and develop your own skills, regardless of aptitude or ability. Students leave us as informed, mature, young adults, ready to assume responsible, valued roles in society. The Sixth Form journey can be challenging but we are determined to support our students in becoming successful young people ready to embark on the next stage of their lives.
