Welcome to The Misbourne School
Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today: In September 2016, 70% of The Misbourne’s Year 13 leavers took up places at university, including places at Russell Group and other top universities including the Royal Veterinary College.
We believe that our students have the right to expect the highest quality of education and we are committed to providing exactly that.
At The Misbourne you will be encouraged in your ambitions and offered the support you need to achieve your individual potential.
We provide a broad range of courses designed to meet your needs and future aspirations. Many of you will be completing jobs which have not yet been developed! The Misbourne will help you develop the skills and qualities you will need to get ahead.
We are passionate about our Sixth Formers helping to shape the culture and future of our school. As a Sixth Former you will have opportunities to become involved in many ventures. There are also many educational trips to overseas and national destinations.
If you are thinking of joining us from another school we would actively encourage you to speak to staff and students about The Misbourne.

Late applications can be made throughout the spring and summer term, however to receive full information and guidance on your application, please apply as soon as possible. External applicants will be invited to one of our monthly External Applicant Open Afternoons, which features a talk on joining The Misbourne, subject area tours and a meeting with the Head of Sixth Form.
The application form including our 2017 option blocks will be available here from Monday 9 January 2017.
We have a wide range of subjects, more so than in many other schools in the county, with over 20 Advanced Level courses offered to our students with the aim of providing a breadth of areas which all universities and employers require. Please refer to the curriculum section of our website for further details.
We have a team of experienced teachers, with a wealth of excellent subject knowledge who will enable our students to attain the highest level in their subject. They have high expectations and they will ask students to not only complete work in lessons but, as they are now in the Sixth Form there is a focus on Independent Learning – they will need to research, prepare for lessons and look ahead in their subject areas.
The existing route here at The Misbourne is to study three two-year courses plus at least one enrichment course. A-level subjects or equivalent courses will each entail approximately ten lessons per fortnight and students will also be expected to manage their time when they have study lessons.
Our Sixth Form centre has made a positive impact on our students.
This space is widely used by all members of the Sixth Form and is a great space to share ideas and study independently. Our librarian has created a dedicated Sixth Form library allowing students to enhance research skills and to foster independent learning, inpreparation for university and careers.
The centre itself contains an open plan working area, including excellent private study and ICT facilities. Students are able to bring in their own ICT facilities and can utilise the school wireless network in order to use study periods effectively.
- The Assistant Head, SENCO oversees has strategic oversight for all areas of Special Educational Needs at The Misbourne.
- Subject teachers are responsible for the progress of students in their lessons. They are trained to teach children with all types of additional learning requirements and are responsible for making the curriculum accessible to all students.
