Welcome to Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School

Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School is a very successful 11 - 18 girls’ comprehensive school and converter academy. We have high standards and high expectations and we aim to help each and every student to succeed. A love of learning is our priority and the pastoral system supports girls in their academic and personal development. The calm, caring and purposeful learning environment is commented on by all of our visitors and this helps our students to achieve beyond expectations and to be challenged to improve on their personal best.

The school achieves consistently good results at GCSE and A level, appearing on the Ofsted ‘Outstandingly Successful Schools’ list in 2003 and 2007. We are working hard to return to ‘outstanding’ status and the 2014 GCSE results demonstrate the on-going high levels of achievement of our students.

The school aims to develop confident, independent, flexible, self-disciplined and considerate young women. The girls have opportunities in and beyond the classroom to develop their academic, sporting, creative and leadership qualities. Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School is a vibrant and exciting learning community of which all are proud to be a part.

We hope that you will enjoy exploring our website and we welcome visits from prospective pupils and staff, since we believe that the ‘real’ QEGS can only be experienced by seeing the school in action.

    • Welcome to our Sixth Form at Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School.  I hope that you will enjoy reading our prospectus.  It will give you a flavour of what we offer, but we hope that you will come and meet our students and staff so that you can get a real sense of what the QE Sixth Form offers.
The school and the Sixth Form were inspected by Ofsted in March 2014 and I was pleased that the Sixth Form was judged to be ‘good’ and a strength of the school.  We are proud to be a comprehensive Sixth Form and proud of the progress that our pupils make, irrespective of their prior attainment at GCSE.
This means that pupils who have done well at GCSE are likely to achieve very high grades, whilst pupils who have done less well can also flourish, provided they are prepared to work hard. We do not have such high proportions of top grades as selective schools and Sixth Form colleges because we admit a wide range of students. Able students achieve very well, but girls who did less well at GCSE still achieve success at A level. This is reflected in the very high ‘value added’ measures achieved consistently year after year.
      Our priorities are:

      • High achievement for all.
      • Enabling every student to fulfil her potential.
      • Development of self-confidence and the personal and teamwork skills which will enable each individual to succeed in all aspects of 21st Century life.

Our success in this is reflected in the school’s strong examination results.  Most of our students go on to university and the destinations list is impressive.  Ofsted confirmed that attainment is good.  Students are also supported to pursue other routes which are increasingly available in today’s workplace such as modern apprenticeships.  Students across the ability range achieve considerable success in our Sixth Form and our value added outcomes have been ‘outstanding’ for well over 10 years which few schools in the country can equal.
This is helped by outstanding teaching, pastoral support and guidance on higher education and careers. There is an ethos of hard work and achievement, but students enjoy their time in the Sixth Form and contribute much to enrich school life for the whole community.
QEGS Sixth Form exists to cater for the diverse needs of students entering post-16 education.

      We aim:

      • To provide a wide range of courses to meet your needs.
      • To provide individual support and guidance to ensure each and every one of you takes full advantage of the rich educational and social opportunities on offer.
      • To enable you to develop as independent, confident and responsible adults, qualified and equipped for your chosen career.
      • To provide guidance and support to enable you to progress to the university of your choice.

Always remember that Sixth Form courses are intended to give you more career and educational options when you finish than you had at the start of the course.  BUT you will not improve your level of achievement without hard work!
