Welcome to Christ's College Finchley

At Christ’s College Finchley we pursue academic excellence for all of our students; resolute in the belief that every child has great potential and should be given every opportunity to fulfil it. The calm and purposeful atmosphere that pervades the school facilitates the high quality learning environment which stimulates the acquisition of new knowledge and develops understanding and vital skills. The school fosters a caring community environment which demands the very highest standards of work, uniform and behaviour.

We are proud of our long history of success which stretches back to 1857, but we are very much a  forward looking establishment..The school’s powerful blend of the best aspects of traditional education combined with skilled innovation and creativity provides a rich environment for student progress. We ensure that our most able students are stretched and challenged and provide the necessary support to students with special needs. We make full use of our specialism to ensure that our students and staff employ the best of the new technologies to enhance teaching and stimulate learning.

Our long standing tradition of developing our students into highly successful people who make a significant impact in their chosen careers and our wider society mean that we are very popular with both students and parents and, consequently, heavily over-subscribed.

Whilst we celebrate the excellent academic progress we demand of our students we place a high value on allowing students to develop skills and expertise in important areas outside of the main curriculum. We have a strong record of sporting success and our curriculum is fortified with a rich and varied diet of learning experiences designed to develop, a work ethic, character, resilience, cultural awareness and ambition.

I am determined that every student at Christ’s College will be able to reflect on their time at Christ’s College as a happy and fulfilling time which provided the foundations needed for their long term future success.

Sixth form ethos

CCF Sixth form provides a varied and challenging environment that focuses principally on advanced courses, individual achievement and involvement in school activities. The school prides itself on close links with Higher Education establishments and has a very high proportion of students going on to study at degree level each year.

CCF Sixth form offers post 16 students choice, responsibility and opportunity. It has a lively atmosphere with a clear mission to equip students with the skills needed in today’s society and ensure success in attaining career and higher education opportunities.

In order to support our students in meeting their personal targets we run a Sixth form induction programme that aims to ensure students are studying effectively from the start of their courses and an extensive individual mentoring programme.

CCF Sixth form, however, is not all “heads down and study” it is an important time to make new friends, develop collaborative working methods and commit to membership of a community that is caring, helpful and prepares them for adult life.

There are plenty of opportunities to be part of an environment in which there is informed discussion of issues important beyond the immediate concerns of Advanced Level studies and for decisions to be made about the society in which we live.

Additional support

In the Sixth Form we offer a structured programme of careers and Higher education advice, with the emphasis on individual guidance for each student from tutors and the Head of Sixth form.

Students are encouraged to attend open days at universities and FE institutions and visits are organised to Careers Conventions, Higher Education Conferences and Higher Education Fairs.  We have well established links with universities and speakers from these give talks about how to choose a university and how to apply to university.

Most of our Sixth formers go on to Higher Education at University (including Oxford and Cambridge) and we have lots of experience in helping students and parents through the complicated application process. We also support those students who are keen to join the world of work, helping with CV writing and interview technique.
