Welcome to Builth Wells High School

At Builth Wells High School we aim to ensure that all pupils ‘Seize The Day’ in line with our school motto, Carpe Diem, maximising their potential both within the classroom and throughout our range of extra currlcular opportunities.

The aspirational ethos of the school encourages all pupils to strive towards their targets within our friendly, bilingual school community which echoes the inclusive nature of the market town of Builth Wells.

We aspire towards continuous progress for all, encouraging a passion for lifelong, independent learning and the development of the whole child. A respectful, calm and welcoming atmosphere pervades the school campus with a dedicated team of staff respectfully encouraging the very best of standards from all pupils at all times.

Working in partnership with parents is key to our success and we aim to continue improving our methods of communication in order to support all of our learners on their educational pathways. Pupils and Parents confirm that they feel that this is a safe and friendly school environment whilst our latest Estyn inspection report states that “Builth Wells High School is a good school which provides outstanding support and guidance to its pupils. The learning experiences provided by the school are of outstanding quality”. Many visitors comment on the special atmosphere that they feel as soon as they enter the school.

We offer a stimulating and enriching curriculum with a wide range of both English and Welsh Medium courses available. Working cooperatively with our partner schools across the south Powys region has ensured that we are able to offer a broad range of both academic and vocational courses as part of our key stage 4 and sixth form provision. Our consistently high examination results are the product of excellent teaching, motivated pupils, good resources, honest reflection and constructive parental feedback. Students are well prepared for their future journeys through our Personal, social and wellbeing programme, competently and confidently rising to the many challenges that come their way.

Pupils readily engage in the extensive range of enrichment opportunities that are on offer. Musical ensembles, choirs and performances shape the ethos of the school; sporting fixtures and opportunities take into account the skills and interests of all of our learners showcasing their talents during public performances; Art and Technology exhibitions give pupils the opportunity to celebrate their work with the broader community whilst Catering competitions enable our pupils to compete on a national basis; confidence exudes through the dramatic productions, shared and enjoyed across the region; travel opportunities open hearts and minds across Nepal, Greece, Austria, the USA to name but a few international links.
