Welcome to Alsop High School

We are a true community comprehensive school and it is important to us that we offer further educational opportunities to as many students as possible, ensuring that each student achieves their maximum potential.

The future for the school looks bright.

We want our students to be successful and we try to ensure that we work closely with all our parents, so that by working together, it is our students who benefit most of all. We have specialist staff in all our curriculum areas supported by a number of teaching and support assistants. Together we look forward to welcoming you to our Sixth Form.

About us

At Alsop our aim is to ensure that every Sixth Former achieves their full potential and we believe that the partnership between the students, their parents and the teachers is essential in making this happen.

Alsop Sixth Form is continually used as a benchmark of best practice by the local authority. We have an unparalleled record of supporting our students which we are incredibly proud of. Alsop offers one of the most diverse and varied post-16 school curricula and as such we are able to offer programmes of study which suit the individual needs of all our pupils.

Facilities available

Alsop High School benefited from the Building Schools for the Future initiative with a state of the art £17 million rebuild and a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. We are very proud to have been voted in the top 30 of the “World’s most beautiful school campuses” by Best Education Degrees which also ranked Alsop High School third in England.

Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre boasts a mezzanine Cyber Café where our pupils can sip a cappuccino while typing their coursework. Similarly the Sixth Form Study Area provides a quiet haven for students to revise and complete their work.

Alsop High School has more computers than any other school in the city and our brand new Sixth Form Library allows our students access to an extensive range of texts and resources which support their studies.

Our IT facilities are some of the best in the city and the school’s free WiFi access allows Sixth Form students to use their own devices in school.

All subjects are supported by dedicated facilities which aim to provide a stimulating and purposeful learning environment for our Sixth Form students. We recognise the need to support the different learning styles of our pupils and our Jamieson Lecture Theatre and cinema allow us to deliver Sixth Form lessons in a range of formats.

Additional support

When you start in our Sixth Form you will be placed in a tutor group matching your chosen subject path. This means that your tutor will be able to guide you through your courses, celebrate your successes and support you if ever you need it. Your tutor will help you settle in the Sixth Form and support the transition from school to a more independent style of learning.

We are exceptionally proud of the outstanding support we are able to offer our Alsop Sixth Form students and this is primarily down to our large and dedicated pastoral team. As well as an Assistant Headteacher, a Head of Sixth Form, two Assistant Heads of Year and a team of Sixth Form Tutors, we also have a dedicated Sixth Form Administrative Manager, ensuring that there is always a point of contact for students and parents.

Whether you want to join the world of work or continue studying at university, we can help you to develop your career path. All pupils will have access to an impartial careers interview to help them make informed choices about their future. Prospective university students are also offered extensive support and a record number of our pupils continued into higher education this year.

At Alsop High School we pride ourselves on ensuring that all our pupils make expected levels of progress in the Sixth Form. During a student’s time in Sixth Form, we will monitor their progress and report on it each term. Review Days and Parents’ Evenings take place to help students achieve their own targets and support their academic progress.

Individual and personalised support programmes are offered to all students to support them in their studies. These may include additional support in lessons, one-to-one support, and small group intervention and after-school masterclasses. Pupils who appear to be underachieving at any point are given a structured intervention plan to support them to make progress, and in some cases a mentor to help monitor this progress.

The teaching staff invest a great deal of time ensuring that students are equipped not just with the advanced subject knowledge and understanding required at A Level study, but also independent study skills and revision and examination technique.

At Alsop High School, we have a stateof-the-art Sixth Form-only Study Area to support students further, together with the popular Cyber Café. The Study Area is there to be used for students’ independent study time, whether working alone or in a group. There are over 50 PCs designed to help with learning.

Learner success

We are committed to celebrating the many and varied successes that students achieve both in and out of the classroom. The breadth of extra-curricular enrichment activities offered at Alsop allow pupils various opportunities to excel and succeed.

UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL SCHOLARS PROGRAMME This initiative supports talented students who wish to access Higher Education, regardless of background. It offers year 12 students the chance to participate in academic skills workshops, lectures, seminars and networking meetings. Out of the 30 places available on this programme 6 have been awarded to Alsop students.

THE ALSOP DEBATING SOCIETY The ADS provides Sixth Form students a forum within which to debate and discuss current affairs and enables to develop confidence as well as support them in their academic studies. The Alsop Debating Society has gone from strength to strength and we were delighted when our team won the European Youth Parliament regional finals.

TRIPS We recognise the importance of trips to enhance our pupils’ understanding of the world and as a means to reward their hard work and academic success. Over the past few years our Sixth Formers have travelled as far afield as New York, Washington DC, Austria, London and The Lake District.

SIXTH FORM PROM After two years of hard work, Sixth Form staff and students celebrate their successes at the Sixth Form Prom. We are delighted to invite students back to our Prize Night in October. This is a fantastic event where students are rewarded for their personal and academic achievements.
