At Havant Sixth Form College, we know just how important the next couple of years are for you. We have been successfully preparing students for progression to universities and jobs for over 50 years. We have redesigned our courses to prepare you for a different way of linear assessment and we will make sure you are given expert guidance on choosing your individual study programme.
We’ll do everything we can to help you achieve your ambitions, through our huge range of courses, superb teaching and facilities, and with the support of our brilliant Careers Service.
We are very proud of our latest Ofsted report which judged the College to be ‘Good’: good at teaching; getting great results; good leadership and management and good capacity to improve further still. Best of all, Ofsted confirmed that ‘students make good progress, achieving better than might be expected when they first join the College’ and ‘learners progression to Higher Education is excellent’.
We’ll also make sure that you will have a good time, with a fantastic range of sports teams, social and enrichment activities to complement your studies.

Havant Sixth Form College
Havant Sixth Form College is a compact campus with plenty of learning, social and green spaces for you to relax and study. We are only a few minutes walk from Havant’s bus and train stations and Havant Leisure Centre is situated opposite us. We are also close to Havant town centre with its growing array of shops, services and food outlets. Explore our main facilities below:
Study Central This is a brand new area for September 2016 in conjunction with the College’s Google launch. It is divided into a range of study zones to suit all learning needs. Use our docking stations for your own devices, relax on our sofas in the chill out zone or work in the silent study booths – Study Central is open throughout the day, including College holidays. Networked computers are available on an open access a ‘drop-in’ basis in our Microsoft Zone. Chromebooks are also available using the College’s wireless network.
Library A large collection of information sources are available in a variety of formats. In addition to books, newspapers, periodicals and educational DVDs, there is also a growing collection of online reference sources and e-books. Most of the online resources can be accessed from home via the internet. An enquiry service, online resource help service and inter-library loans is also available.
Group Study Zone This area offers bookable group study booths, all with screens to attach your own devices. There are also docking stations to connect to and work using your own device.
IT Facilities The College is constantly developing its IT facilities, with new investment providing the latest infrastructure technologies together with regular refreshes of our PC and laptop estate; all ensuring students and staff always have access to well specified and relevant IT resources. The College is fully wireless, enabling you to use your own devices. This makes independent study much easier, with students having access to a large bank of online teaching materials.
School of Business Opened for teaching in September 2013, this fantastic building provides accommodation for the teaching of A Level Accounting, Business, Economics, Law and Politics all of which have outstanding success rates.
New Science Labs The College has seen the installation of state-of-the-art science labs. All labs are supported by prep rooms and highly skilled technicians.
The iMedia Suite Film and Media students can create, manipulate and design their work using Apple Macs and industry standard HD recording equipment and software.
Art & Photography Design Studios The College is renowned for its inspiring artists and their work. Since all good artists require the right environment to create their masterpiece, our art studios provide such a setting. The main studio is large in size, equipped with everything an artist could desire, along with good floor space and light. Our separate Design Studio also provides the perfect facility for our Photography students.
The Studio Theatre This space is utilised throughout the year. The Studio Theatre is primarily used for the teaching of Drama & Theatre Studies but also for talks, workshops, presentations, concerts and Student Union events.
The Sports Hall This four badminton court sized modern facility is the ideal venue to host activities including badminton, trampolining, netball, volleyball, basketball and cricket. It is also used to host non-sporting College events such as presentations from guest speakers.
The Student Shop Open regularly throughout term time, the shop is a small but well stocked resource, which supplies a wide range of essential stationery, course texts and equipment at competitive prices. Students also make use of the Student Shop when making payment for trips, Duke of Edinburgh and examination resits.
Student Information Centre You can access information on student topics ranging from finance, travel and part-time employment to lifestyle, health and welfare issues.
The Plaza, Enjoy and Deli The Catering Team provide a wide variety of food choices; a weekly menu alongside ‘grab and go’ style food. The Deli situated in The Plaza is the place to be if you like paninis, baguettes, speciality breads and pasta. In Enjoy we offer an extensive range of food and have a fresh bean to cup coffee machine, fresh fruit, chilled drinks and a salad bar with a loyalty card scheme. We source as much of our food locally as possible and keep up to date with the high street offers and prices so you should find something to suit all tastes and budgets.We also have an extensive choice of vending options around the Campus which include healthier style snacks and hot drinks. In The Plaza we have a football table and TV for your enjoyment.
The Student Lounge This social area allows you to work while enjoying a snack or drink in your break. All food areas provide a wireless network, so you can access the internet on your own devices
We know it can be a big jump from school to college – academically, socially and personally. If you need support, have concerns or just need some friendly advice, there are plenty of people and services you can turn to.
Your personal tutor
Your personal tutor will be a very important figure in your life at Havant Sixth Form College. You’ll have regular group tutorials and one-to-one sessions with your tutor. Your tutor will help you set targets and monitor your progress through your Personal Learning Plan (PLP). As a First Year student you’ll also have a mentor – a Second Year student who’ll give you the benefit of their experience and inside knowledge!
Academic Support Centre
If you face challenges in your learning, you can get specialist help through our Academic Support Centre, which is open to all our students right through the day. We welcome students with disabilities and do all we can to enable them to participate fully in College life.
The Academic Support Centre provides help with study skills like essay writing, time management, revision planning and exam technique – useful ways to boost your grades and excellent preparation for university. These are run as weekly sessions, which you can slot in between your normal lessons.

Gifted and Talented (G&T)
If you’ve been identified as gifted and talented (G&T) at school – academically, in sport or the arts – you’ll get extra support, including help with applying for Oxbridge, Russell Group universities, or a medicine, veterinary science or law degree. In your Second Year, you’ll be in a tutor group with other G&T students.
Welfare and counselling
Whatever you’re dealing with, you don’t have to do it alone. Our Student Welfare Service is always here to offer information, advice and guidance and put you in touch with specialist help, or just talk things through in quiet, relaxed surroundings. You can self refer to our confidential service and we will do our best to see you as soon as possible. We also have a Health & Wellbeing Centre and you’ll also find mentors here at lunch times.
Through our Access Funds we can help students from families on low incomes or receiving benefits with the costs of course materials, trips and travel.
We have a multi-faith room available for students offering space for prayers, reflection, guidance and counselling, either individually or in small groups. The Chaplaincy Service is open to students of all faiths or none. Our Chaplain attending the College provides opportunity for an informal chat and encourages multi-faith dialogue. From September, the Chaplain will be liaising closely with the Student Union and have involvement in supporting national and local charity fundraising. We also have a Christian Union.
Gay Straight Alliance
The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) is a group for all students: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, questioning and straight. They are an open and welcoming group who meet weekly to socialise, discuss relevant issues such as sexuality and gender identity and to plan fundraising.
The College has had an excellent track record for achieving excellent results year after year. Choose Havant Sixth Form College and you can be confident you’ll get the great results you need for whatever you want to do.
In 2016, we recorded a 98.3% pass rate, with 49% of our students achieving A* to B high grades, with around 500 A*/A grade passes recorded.
High grades are key to getting a place on the best university courses and jobs.
In 2016, 80% of our students progressed to Higher Education with 23% of those entering the more prestigious Russell Group universities.
We have a Careers Team with exceptional university and labour market knowledge to help you and we have the best A Level results track record for a state sector college in the local area.
It has been a phenomenal year at Havant; we have entered into an exciting venture with Google which has certainly contributed to our students’ fantastic results, we have been shortlisted as a Times Educational Supplement Sixth Form College of the Year and now these superb results!
