Welcome to Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School


Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School is a highly successful school, with an aspirational ethos which leads to excellent levels of achievement. About us

This is an exciting time in any young person’s education, with a wealth of opportunities beginning to open up. We pride ourselves on supporting students to make the most of their time with us and plan for a rewarding future. We want each and every student in our Sixth Form to be successful and well prepared for their next steps. Many of our Year 11 students continue their studies in the Sixth Form and each year we are able to welcome an increasing number of students from other institutions. Students in the Sixth Form study either an A-Level or a vocational programme.

Facilities available

All tutor groups are based at our Sixth Form Centre which is a separate site, approximately 400m from the main site. Many subjects are taught on this site, although subjects requiring specialist facilities are delivered at the main site (Art, Music, Performing Arts, practical science lessons).

Private study periods are spent in a designated area with PCs, the main Library or an available teaching room.

Additional support

All students are placed in a tutor group with one of our dedicated team of specialist Sixth Form tutors. Their tutorial meetings are designed to be regular review meetings, where we can track their progress and ensure that they feel supported during their time with us. We have a very strong senior student leadership team and a number of students are appointed to positions of responsibility; an important one of which is to promote student welfare and to support other students. The Sixth Form pastoral team and I are very approachable and operate an ‘open door’ policy.

The academy has a successful and wellestablished careers, education and guidance system, and this is continued into the Sixth Form. Students are given extensive support and guidance concerning further and higher education applications and with seeking employment/apprenticeships.
 
A Careers Convention is held at the academy once every two years, and students are made aware of any other local or national conventions. Organised trips to University Open Days and/or a UCAS convention are offered to students. A career tutorial programme is run throughout both Years 12 and 13 on a weekly basis and includes: assemblies, quizzes, CV building, volunteering events, and talks from external visitors. These talks are delivered by experts in their field and cover advice on careers, apprenticeships and universities - including help on personal statements for their UCAS applications and student finance.
 
At the end of Year 12 students are expected to seek out useful and relevant work experience for their chosen career path, with the help of our careers team at QEGS. Students can benefit greatly from these experiences as it can generate new skills and allow them to explore possible career paths. Previous students have chosen to take this opportunity to work outside of their local area and, in some cases, venture to countries outside of the UK. This time in work placement can greatly enhance their future applications to higher education or employment.
