Welcome to Sheldon School
Firmly established over many years, Sheldon's excellent reputation is well-deserved. It is a purposeful learning community where every individual counts.
Examination performance is very strong. At A level, students reach exceptional levels in a thriving Sixth Form of over 400 students. In the past two years alone, sevenstudents have gone on to read subjects at Oxford and Cambridge universities, in addition to several following medical and veterinary degrees, one to the Guildhall School of Music and in 2014 one to a prestigious Japanese university.
In 2013 Sheldon was recognised at GCSE amongst the top 100 schools for sustained improvement since 2011 and figures were once again excellent in 2014. An impressive 26 students achieved 10 or more A*/A grades, with the headline school figures being extremely healthy: 85% achieved at least 5 A*-C grades and 69% achieved at least 5 A*-C grades including English and maths.
Expectations and aspirations are high here and we are committed to developing the young people in our care, whatever their talents. Children of all abilities succeed at this school and are encouraged to develop academically, physically and spiritually, fulfilling their potential in a happy, caring environment.
As a parent of four children myself, I am acutely aware of the increasing importance of education in today’s world and the role that we, as teachers, have to play in developing our children so that they are fully equipped to make positive contributions to society. The staff at Sheldon School are extremely committed and dedicated to ensure that this is the case and I am personally determined to see all children flourish here.
I also value enormously the links between school and home, success being built on strong partnerships with parents and ourselves. My door is always open and prospective or existing parents are very welcome to visit the school; I look forward to meeting you.
Neil Spurdell, Headteacher
Firmly established over a number of years, Sheldon’s Sixth Form students have performed excepti onally well in the wide range of courses that are on off er here. Being a large and thriving Year 12 and 13 community of some 400 students brings many advantages – real curriculum choice, a diverse off ering of extra-curricular and social opportuniti es and a dedicated pastoral team who are here to guide you through your important two-year programme. It might be a number of years since I was a sixth former, but I sti ll remember it well. These two years are perhaps your most important yet, whether they be as preparation for the world of work or, as a great many of our students choose to do, preparati on before heading off to university.
Each year we are pleased to add a number of students to our Sixth Form from other schools, usually in the region of 50, so if this is your fi rst taste of Sheldon I hope that, having read through the prospectus, you will want to have a look round the school and will want to come and join us. If you have been a student in the lower school here, we would trust that your positive experience in your time at Sheldon will inspire you to stay on for longer. I hope you will find this prospectus useful and that, ultimately, you choose Sheldon as your place of study. We look forward to the contributi on you can make.
