When you join us – it may seem like a big step from the familiar surroundings of school but we will help you to settle in quickly. We always put you first.

You’ll have more responsibility focusing on meeting exam and coursework deadlines and will be encouraged to develop your independent learning skills. Teachers will expect you to be hard-working and focused on your studies, and there will be many opportunities to stretch yourself academically. In turn, they will be there to give you as much support as you need.

During your time here, you’ll have a Personal Tutor who will be your adviser, monitor your progress, discuss your career ambitions and prepare you for life after SJD. They know how important it is for you to achieve the grades you want and will be there for you academically, always ready to give you praise and recognition.

The College has a mentoring service, which involves trained volunteers from the Upper Sixth helping other students settle into College life – it’s based on the idea that people often learn best from those who are a few steps further down the road they wish to travel.

SJD is committed to demonstrating equality of opportunity and mutual respect. We positively encourage all of our students to achieve the best they can.

SJD also has a dedicated, additional learning support team to help you with your studies.
