Welcome to Alderman White School and Language College

Alderman White School is a member of the White Hills Park Federation Trust but maintains its own distinct identity and students benefit from the many activities that are available to them which enhance their curriculum as well as providing the opportunity to develop wider skills such as leadership and organisation.

We are proud of the work and achievements of the school and the wider Federation Trust. The principal behind our Federation is that each of the two schools that make up the Federation maintains its own identity and has all the advantages of a small school. However, by working together schools in the Federation also provide all the benefits of a large school, particularly in terms of increased opportunities which are available to every student.

As a parent I am sure that you are aware of the anxiety which some students feel about moving to a large secondary school. We believe that smaller schools are able to provide a much friendlier environment for younger students, particularly in Year 7. However, the disadvantage of small schools is that they cannot offer a varied range of courses for older students. Through collaboration schools within a Federation can create many more opportunities, particularly for older students when they choose their options at 14 and 16 years of age.

My staff are committed to maintaining the distinct identities of the schools but also ensure that we meet the needs of each student so they reach their full potential. We believe that we can only achieve the latter by working together as a Federation.

We look forward very much to meeting you.

Mr Kevin Dean
Executive Headteacher

    • Bramcote College is the Post-16 provider for The White Hills Park Federation Trust. However the College is also open to other students from outside the Federation. The College aims to meet the needs of all students within the Federation; although the majority of courses at the College are traditional A-Levels, the college does provide alternative routes at both GCSE level and A-Level in the form of BTEC qualifications. We also aim to provide a very personalised system both in terms of the curriculum we offer and the guidance we provide. In order to achieve this both teaching and tutor groups are kept small; therefore offering more individual tuition to our students.

We believe that the success of the College rests upon three things: the progress our students make in terms of each individual reaching their potential, how many students complete their courses, and also our success in ensuring all students achieve their favoured destination whether this is higher education, training schemes or embarking on their future career. We are proud of our most recent successes, including students who have gone on to study subjects such as Medicine, Law and Teaching at a variety of The Russell Group of Universities.

As part of the successful 2011 OFSTED inspection, the following comments were made in the report :-

      • "In the Sixth Form, strong leadership has been successful in creating a clear sixth form identity..."
      • "Higher attaining students make far better progress than students of similar abilities across the country"
      • "Lessons are characterised by teachers who are able to excite students with the subject being taught"

Of course time in the Sixth Form is also about personal development. Our students play an active part in leadership programmes and organising activities for younger students; for example the College students act as House Captains for the Federation House system.
