Welcome to Bishop Wordsworth's Grammar School
Welcome to the Sixth Form at South Wilts Grammar School. We have a long and successful history of providing an excellent learning environment for our students
and run an exciting Sixth Form in collaboration with Bishop Wordsworth’s School. With over 700 students we are the largest Sixth Form in the county and offer a
very wide range of AS and A Level subjects. Subjects shown as ‘at BWS’ will have all 8 periods at BWS. Subjects shown as ‘joint with BWS’ will have 4 periods at
BWS and 4 periods at SWGS. Subjects shown as ‘at SWGS’ will have all 8 periods at SWGS and are open to students from BWS.
Following the most recent inspection both the school and the Sixth Form were rated Outstanding by OFSTED who noted ‘Achievement overall is outstanding and
compares well with other selective schools nationally. The school brings the best out of these able girls, who enjoy their learning in this challenging and supportive
Each year up to around 90 students join us in the Sixth Form at South Wilts from other schools and quickly become integrated into academic and social life.
Students are divided into tutor groups of about 20 Year 12s and Year 13s. Each tutor group has a particular academic focus; you will be with other students studying some of the same subjects as you, in the care of a tutor who will probably teach one of your option choices.
Our prime concern is the successful completion of your studies and your personal welfare. You will need to work hard and you will receive first class tuition and
strong pastoral support. To enable you to give your best we encourage you to participate in our programme of enrichment activities. You will have access to a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including a huge range of clubs and societies, many of which are student-run, recreational PE, music and sport, and you may choose to take on one of the many posts of responsibility in the Sixth Form. These range from general prefect duties, to prefects with whole-school roles (e.g. eco prefects), to acting as departmental prefects or working with younger students as an academic mentor. Through our PSD (Personal and Social Development) programme, we will work together to develop your personal progress, through our ‘making the most of you’ programme. Our results are excellent; all our students do well.
