Welcome to Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA), a vibrant 11-18 all-inclusive secondary school and 6th Form providing students with a stimulating and progressive education.

We are a high achieving academy with a rich academic offering. We believe that anything is possible and encourage combination of our entrepreneurial ethos, specialism in sports and technological focus to raise standards, whilst developing the key skills of every student that is necessary to achieve success in the 21st century.

Brighton Aldridge Community Academy offers you an incredibly exciting future, having made rapid progress in recent years. We have recently been awarded the 2014 Educational Outcomes Award, by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) in recognition of our outstanding student progress at GCSE, being listed in the top 20% of schools nationally for value added. And with our impressive state-of-the-art new building, increasing exam results, expanding 6th Form and a dynamic leadership team, we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding and flexible learning environment for students of all abilities to believe they can be the best.

Our Vision, Your Future

At BACA, our vision is to be a high achieving Academy of globally and socially aware students with the creative skill to innovate, and the confidence to succeed in an ever-changing technological world.

The aim of the Academy is to ‘give students the chance to unlock and maximise their potential in order to shape their own futures’.

We will achieve this by providing a/an:

  • outstanding learning environment for students of all abilities
  • consistent approach to learning
  • personalised and innovative curriculum that will ensure every student is given the very best education to reach their potential
  • focus on high standards of behaviour, smart uniform and good manners
  • effective rewards and behaviour system that celebrates student achievements

Facilities available

Our impressive building provides state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional learning resources for our students and members of our local community.

The Academy has facilities to support student learning that includes a large Learning Resource Centre, cutting-edge ICT resources, a drama studio, business pods, specialist science rooms, and a dedicated 6th Form area.

The Academy has outstanding sporting facilities that include extensive playing fields, a six-court sports hall, two all-weather pitches, an outdoor multi-use games area, a dance studio and a gym.

In addition we have recreation space for students, a student allotment, a vocational area for catering and other work experience activities, and the Swan Centre, a resource for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder or speech and language needs.

We welcome opportunities from communities and businesses from in and around Brighton to use our building, we wish to make it a centre of excellence for many people to utilise and are always keen to hear any ideas that you may have, whether it be a start up business or an arts project.  We welcome you to come and visit our exceptional building. 

Additional support

We supplement our students’ curriculum with additional opportunities and experiences which give them their own unique selling points on their CV.

Opportunities and experiences include:

  • BASE business competition
  • University visits
  • Master classes
  • Art at Work programme

Students are encouraged to make a positive contribution to Academy life by mentoring younger students and being ambassadors for Academy events. Additionally students can become involved in volunteer work and gain work experience within the local community.

To further supplement students’ learning here at BACA, every student will receive a free iPad Air to ensure they are equipped for study in the 21st century both in the academy and at home.

      Falmer Station is about ten minutes' walk from BACA along a footpath free from traffic. The station lies on the Brighton - Lewes - Newhaven - Seaford railway line which has a frequent service from early morning until late at night, seven days a week.

      Bus

      High frequency services operate direct from central Brighton in the west and Lewes, Ringmer and Uckfield in the east. 

      The nearest bus stop to BACA (called ‘Brighton Academy’) is a five minute walk away. 

      Students can also walk to Halland Road (8 mins) or Coldean Lane (11 mins) for other local buses.

      Please note, there is no access via the Falmer campus of Brighton University or the Amex Stadium. Students using service 84 to the university will need to walk from there to the Academy via Falmer Station (10 mins). 

      Bicycle 

      BACA has a CCTV-monitored secure rack for over 100 bicycles, under cover and adjacent to the building. 

      Most of the city's main roads have cycle lanes, including Lewes Road which leads to the Academy.
