Welcome to Colchester Royal Grammar School
Colchester Royal Grammar School, or CRGS as it is known, has a history of scholarship dating back to the sixteenth century, and the school of today is a proud leader amongst the nation’s highly regarded selective grammar schools. It became an academy in 2012 and was designated a National Teaching School and a National Support School in 2013. CRGS is a forward-looking school which embraces traditional values. It seeks to rival the very best schools at home and abroad and provide the best education money can’t buy.
CRGS is an 11-18 school for boys and admits girls into a coeducational Sixth Form. There is a small, family-style boarding section for sixth form boys. The school is a vibrant, multicultural community which offers a rich academic curriculum and a wide range of extracurricular activities. The school is the top school in the country for A levels according to the official government performance tables and has an outstanding record for university entrance. In 2014 CRGS received 40 Oxbridge offers and over 20 offers from Medical Schools.
‘The students are happy and proud to be here’ was the line from The Good Schools’ Guide of 20 years ago which first drew my attention to Colchester Royal Grammar School. I found it to be true at the time and have sought to keep it so ever since. To be happy, students have to be well cared for, stimulated and well taught. In return they are expected to be respectful, courteous and considerate.
If students are proud of their school, they will seek to do their very best in all they do. I am immensely proud of the students of the school and I want to create an environment where they and their teachers enjoy the experience of learning and teaching and strive for excellence.
Colchester Royal Grammar School welcomes applications from students for entry at 11+, 13+ and 16+ and it encourages parents of prospective students to attend one of the school’s Open Evenings. In the meantime, I hope that you enjoy trawling this site and getting to know a little more about life at Colchester Royal Grammar School.
