Welcome to Rhondda Valley Consortium

Rhondda Valleys Consortium consists of the Rhondda Valley’s schools working in partnership together.

The Rhondda Valleys Consortium has been providing high quality Post 16 education for a number of years and we have seen many students realise their ambitions in a wide range of fields. Students in the Rhondda Valleys Consortium have successfully completed courses delivered outside of their home school.

About us

These courses have enabled them to enrich their studies in their home school and contribute to broadening their option choices at Post 16. We are proud to be able to offer one of the most comprehensive subject offers of any Post 16 provision in Rhondda Cynon Taff and we constantly keep evaluating our provision to ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our students.

Facilities available

By becoming a member of the Rhondda Consortium that extends over five secondary schools and other external partners, you are able to access a wide variety of courses and support features. You will have the security of having the advice and the care and guidance offered by your home school, the school that knows you best, together with the opportunities and benefits of the experiences of other establishments. You will be encouraged to aim as high as possible in terms of academic and personal development and will be advised to choose a combination of courses that helps you develop a wide range of skills, interests and abilities.

Additional support

The choices you make can affect your future and with the widening choice they can by hard decisions to make.

Your school has considerable expertise and experience at helping people just like you and they know you. Your school can also bring in the help and support of others such as the Careers Service. Post 16 students are given additional help and support from specialist staff within the school to monitor an individual’s progress and help them achieve success. The Rhondda Consortium of schools have teaching staff who are well qualified, experienced, and committed to your success.

Virtual learning environments are available to support your studies across the five schools within the consortium. Resources are updated regularly and will always contain the most up to date information. It can also be used to contact a tutor, who may not be based at your home school. If you want to return to the Post 16 Consortium, but do not know what to study, ASK FOR HELP. We are all willing and able to help. It is important that you make the choice of subjects that best suit your ability and your choice of career.

    • Our school serves the Upper Rhondda district and there are currently approximately 1700 students educated at the school, over 400 of whom are in the Sixth form. There is a team of dedicated and committed staff and in the last three inspections in 2000, 2006 and 2012 teaching was described as ‘a major strength of the school’.

The most recent Inspection took place in March 2012 and the report confirmed that the school’s current performance is ‘Excellent’ and importantly, the school’s prospects for improvement are also ‘Excellent’.

The school was awarded the top grade in all 3 Key Questions and is also the first Secondary School in Wales to have achieved the ‘Excellent’ grade for all 15 judgements.

The ethos of the school is firmly embedded in our core values of mutual respect, high standards of self-discipline and hard work. An extensive and flexible curriculum, excellent pastoral care and a rich and diverse programme of extra-curricular activities ensure that all our learners thrive within a caring and supportive atmosphere.
