Welcome to Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre

Welcome to Hove Park Sixth Form and welcome to your future. The transition from school to sixth form is an important, challenging, yet exciting time as for the first time in your education you can choose where and what to study. HP6 is a dynamic, lively, small college that strives for academic excellence whilst providing a supportive, holistic, motivational learning environment where every young person’s experience is personalised to their individual needs. We believe that at this key moment in your life anything is possible, you can be anyone, do anything and our ethos at HP6 is dream it, believe it and achieve it, which reflects our high aspirations. We want students to think big, discover their individuality and reach their full potential so when they leave us they lead happy, fulfilled lives doing something they love.

As one of the City’s smallest colleges, we can offer a personalised support package, offering work experience, volunteering opportunities, careers advice and bespoke workshops, all aimed at preparing our students for the next phase whether that be University, apprenticeships or straight into the world of work. Our link with Blatchington Mill Sixth Form means we are able to offer a wide range of courses. We embed in our learners an appetite for lifelong learning as we want our students to leave us as confident, inquisitive, highly skilled, employable young people.

HP6 is on an upward trajectory of achievement and this year saw more students than ever achieve the top grade of AAB and more students than ever gaining places at Oxbridge and other top universities. We have rates of progress higher than the national average, so at whatever level you join us we are confident that you will excel here with us. This prospectus gives you just a flavour of what studying at HP6 is like, and I hope you will take the opportunity to attend our Open Evening on Wednesday 2nd November from 6.30pm-8.30pm to talk to staff and students in more depth and find out why HP6 is the college for you.

About us

Hove Park Sixth Form offers excellent provision and has performed within the top 20% of colleges nationally for the last three years. We are an inclusive college and have provision suitable for all types of learners; whether you are working towards passing your English GCSE or interested in completing A-levels in a variety of subjects, there is an offer for all.

As a small college we are able to get to know our learners as individuals and we provide them with experiences that match their interests and career aspirations. We have an on-site Careers Advisor who can support students throughout their time with us at HP6.

HP6 is situated in a separate part of the main school and provides exclusive facilities for sixth form students. The common room is an area for recreation and independent study, featuring the student run Snack Shack, which serves a range of refreshments at break times. There is a sixth form only computer suite equipped with PCs and Macs as well as a range of sixth form only classrooms giving the sixth form a truly distinctive feel with its own identity.

We accept students from many destinations, local secondary schools, colleges and international students. However for the majority of students who have studied at Hove Park School previously we can make the transition from school to sixth form seamless as the students already know the staff before they begin in the autumn term.

Additional support

All students will have regular 1 to 1 progress sessions as part of their assembly which supports their academic and personal progress, advising on career and university choices. The Director and Assistant Directors of Sixth Form are always available for additional advice and support and closely monitor and track the progress of each student. Our office is located just off the Common Room encouraging students to have easy access to speak with us whenever necessary.

At HP6 we have strong partnerships with local Universities including Sussex, Brighton and Chichester. Students have the opportunity to speak to current university students, advisors and visit the university campuses as part of a detailed Higher Education Programme. This supports students with their application process and raises aspirations for students who may be the first in their family to go to university. We also help students with their university applications offering UCAS workshops and help with filling in their UCAS forms. Students wishing to put in an application to Oxford and Cambridge are actively encouraged and support with the interview process for all universities is part of our programme. This year we saw 8 students successfully applying to Oxbridge with 4 receiving an offer.

We take our students’ futures very seriously and therefore provide Careers education and guidance throughout their time with us at Sixth Form. Students also attend group events to prepare them for their lives after Sixth Form. We aim to support all students with their transition from HP6 and prepare them for the next phase in their lives, whether that be university, further college education, employment or training such as apprenticeships.
