Welcome to Malmesbury School

At Malmesbury School our vision is to be a happy, caring and excellent community. We are proud to be a truly comprehensive school providing an education of the highest quality for all the students within Malmesbury and the surrounding area.

In the last Ofsted inspection in May 2012, the inspectors found that in all areas the school is 'Outstanding'. One parental comment summarises what many others say; ‘This is a wonderful school. It nurtures, cares and educates the children’. The inspector reported that; “Relationships are excellent and high levels of respect are apparent between students and staff”. After observing many lessons they also found that “The quality of teaching is remarkably high because of high expectations of leaders and teachers of themselves”.

In August 2011 we converted to become a ‘New style academy’, in July 2013 we were awarded National Support School status and in September 2014 we became a Teaching School and established the Avon Teaching School Alliance. In March 2015 we established the Athelstan Multi-Academy Trust when we became the sponsor of The Dean Academy in Gloucestershire.

We would be delighted to welcome you to our school if you would like to come and visit us.

About us

Malmesbury School offers around 30 subjects at AS and A level.

Students in the sixth form normally study 4 AS levels in Year 12 and continue three of these onto A level. This allows the student to drop their least successful or least liked subject at the end of Year 12 so that they can focus on their A level choices. Year 12 students are advised to drop this subject after receiving their AS level results in August.

Any student who drops an AS level subject in June of Year 12 cannot pick that subject back up in September - even if it produces their best examination result.

Initially students in Year 11 are advised to apply for any combination of the 30 subjects. Every effort is made to accommodate for these choices and run an appropriate number of teaching groups. Unfortunately it is not always possible to accommodate every choice but the Head of Sixth form is always available to discuss alternative options.
