Welcome to New Mills School and Sixth Form

By choosing to continue your education at New Mills Sixth Form, you are joining a close knit community of fellow students who are working hard to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. It's a place to expand your horizons, learn new skills and plan for embarking on your future career.

We offer a very special place to study, one which is highly supportive, meeting the differing needs of individual students. Our Sixth Form continues to go from strength to strength, and a key element of this success is the way staff, students and parents all work together to ensure positive outcomes. If you do decide to join our Sixth Form, all we ask is that you aim high, that you strive to do your best and that you play a part in the wider school community.

At New Mills we consider each of you to be very different and that a well-rounded person is more than the sum total of their qualifications. Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of A-Level qualifications as well as many extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities. The small class sizes make for a productive learning environment, where you can thrive academically and this, coupled with the strong community-based ethos of the Sixth Form makes for a very close-knit, friendly and supportive environment for your studies.

Furthermore, the dedicated and experienced teaching provided by the school's staff, the Sixth Form Leadership Team and form tutors ensures that you can make progress in all aspects of your studies. The strong pastoral support, careers advice and guidance and academic support and intervention ensure that you have every opportunity to grow and develop as you progress throughout your time with us.

As a popular and thriving Sixth Form at the heart of the local community, we aim to provide you with a well-rounded educational experience, that is both rewarding and enjoyable and that will allow you to fulfil your ambitions, whatever they may be.

About us

At New Mills, our offering is traditionally academic. Our Sixth Form is much smaller than some of the other colleges in the local area but the range of subjects we offer remains broad. Smaller classes, individual care and personalised learning all contribute to a more positive teaching and learning experience for those who study here.

New Mills staff are always willing to go that extra mile to provide additional support where needed. We use tracking and monitoring to map progress against target grades that show students and parents what advancement is being made towards learning goals and what can be done in order to further improve progress.

Key to success in the Sixth Form is independent study; students are expected to undertake additional reading and research into each of their chosen courses. Students have access to private study rooms located in the Sixth Form, an ICT suite for the sole use of Sixth Formers and a Library staffed by a Learning Resource Manager who can help you locate materials to help you progress your learning.
