Welcome to The Wellington Academy

There will never be a better time to send your children to the Wellington Academy. Our A Level results in summer 2015 were easily our best ever and better than nearly all our competitor schools. Students made more progress on average in the vital subjects of maths and English than all local secondary schools: in fact our maths results are in the top 10 non-selective schools in Wiltshire.

I want to emphasize that this is a fully inclusive school where we are focused on enabling our students of all levels of ability to achieve their full potential. We have students who achieve As and A*s in most, if not all, of their subjects at A Level, with some of our 6th Form students going on to the best universities in the country.

Our vision for education has been inspired by our sponsor, Wellington College, in that we believe in a strong extra-curricular and pastoral provision to complement academic excellence. Dedicated staff monitor the progress and well-being of students, encouraging them to participate in a rich programme of activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award, our strong sports teams and vibrant arts enrichment. For our boarding students in particular, these activities continue in the evening and over the weekend and we are very proud of the international and social mix that is able to call the Academy their home from home.

The best way for families to understand the Academy is to arrange a visit. You will be impressed with our modern facilities, inspiring staff and the ambition we have for of all of our students.

Mike Milner

Executive Principal

At the Wellington Academy, our 6th Form team is committed to ensuring that every student feels part of the community. Our 6th Form is now rated amongst the top 25% of A Level providers in the country and is in better shape than ever. We have a strong academic profi le, but if students are to maximise their potential they need to feel safe and secure and also know they are valued. There is a real belief amongst the students that they can excel in their subject areas and there is the aspiration that they can go on to achieve great things with their lives both in the local area and far beyond.

Through a range of factors like the boarding house, our unique link with Wellington College and schemes such as the Momentum Programme, students realise that we live in a global world and want to embrace opportunities to experience life beyond the immediate vicinity.

With excellent results, fantastic facilities and a range of opportunities, we fi rmly believe the Wellington Academy 6th Form can off er any post 16 student the chance to really thrive. If you have any questions, or would like to come and have a look round, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Facilities available

Schools worldwide are asking questions about how education must evolve to match the changing world and the aspirations of young people, their families and communities. Our Academy and campus embody these ideas by feeling less like a school and more like a university or business - as well as being a learning hub for the whole community. The building, designed by award winning architects BDP, refl ects the surrounding countryside and internally has a beautifully open, light feeling that ensures people working together can see each other and feel connected as part of our learning community. The building also provides high quality learning and social space for students and doubles as an excellent community venue for a range of events.

Our facilities include a 300 seat theatre, all-weather 3G pitch, music and technology recording suites, textiles studio, Castledown FM radio media centre, engineering and manufacturing centre, drama and dance studios, boarding house, sports & fi tness centre all with FREE on-site parking.

Additional support

With a dedicated non-teaching engagement and development coordinator, there is always someone around to help. Alongside this, we have an experienced 6th Form leadership team and personal tutors who have responsibility for ensuring that all students are making the necessary progress needed to succeed.

The Academy offers a fully inclusive 6th Form. Our priority is to ensure that every student has access to a flexible package of courses, support and experiences designed to meet their individual needs and aspirations.
