Welcome to Wolfreton School

Welcome to Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College. We are a large, vibrant, ‘Good’ school, (Ofsted 2013), serving the Haltemprice area of the East Riding of Yorkshire, catering for over 1500 students between the ages of 11-18, both in our school and our popular Sixth Form.

We value high standards and aspirations and we aim to support students in achieving their best in academic, sporting, linguistic and artistic interests. We are proud that the majority of our students leave our Sixth Form to continue their education at a university of their choice.

Our results this summer reflect the hard work, positive attitude and commitment to education shown by our students in all examination years. Once again we can celebrate some wonderful success stories where our students, through their sheer hard work and ability, have achieved outstanding progress and very high standards.

The summer of 2014 will be remembered as the time when new rules and regulations regarding examination courses impacted on school performance tables, with many schools and academies recording a dip in their overall results, especially with regard to the so called ‘gold standard’ measure of 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and Mathematics. Although we experienced some fluctuation in our mathematics results, the performance of our students overall bucked the national trend and we saw a slight rise in this measure from that achieved in 2013. We have now improved year on year over the last three years and our students are making excellent progress in terms of their knowledge and understanding across all subjects. We are particularly pleased with the 48% improvement in the total number of A* and A grades that our Year 11 students achieved this summer.

The vast majority of our Year 11 students continue their education and it is wonderful to welcome many of them back into our sixth form, where we have seen a sharp increase in the proportion choosing Wolfreton and the Consortium for their level 3 courses. Our post 16 courses continue to be successful and we have seen significant improvement in the percentage of students achieving the higher grades at A level, in both academic and vocational courses. This success is mirrored in the proportion of students progressing to university, and we are delighted to see a greater number gaining admission to one of the Russell Group universities.
