About us

Welcome to the Worcester Sixth Form College website and thank you for your interest in our College.

We are specialists in the education of 16-19 year olds and our staff are experts in meeting the needs of this age group.

Every year we admit 800 or so students from the whole county of Worcestershire and from surrounding areas. This enables us to offer an exceptionally wide range of courses and flexible programmes in which any course can be combined with virtually any other course.

Our students are highly successful, not just academically, but in many other kinds of endeavour, including sports, performing arts, music, Duke of Edinburgh, charity fund raising and a wide variety of other extra-curricular areas. Over the last ten years Worcester Sixth Form College has won more national British Colleges Sport titles than any other college in the whole of the West Midlands Region. Our performing arts productions regularly receive praise in the local press and are frequently selected for County showcase events.

I am committed to providing the very best support to all of our students so that they can reach their full potential. Every student is in a tutor group supported by a specialist personal tutor. We also have huge expertise in providing careers and higher education guidance tailored to individuals’ needs. This means students’ progression after College is as smooth as possible. The percentage of our students applying to UCAS who are successful in obtaining university places is very significantly above the national average. Our learning support provision has an excellent reputation as we are fully qualified to support students with a broad range of learning needs to ensure that they are successful.

As a Sixth Form College, we offer a very special environment with the right balance of support and challenge to enable students to thrive and to prepare for their transition to life after College, whether that be employment or further study.

You will see from the Prospective Students pages of our website that we have a particularly wide variety of courses, facilities and activities to offer. If you are considering applying to the College, you will be interested to know that we have Open Evenings in November with Information Evenings during the spring and summer terms. I very much hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you to one of these events

Additional support

All students are allocated to a tutor who is the first link between the college and home. Tutors are supported by two Heads of Year ad they are jointly responsible for advising students about their programmes of study and other College related matters.

Learner success

  • The College's A Level pass rate of 99.2% (grades A*-E) continues to be significantly higher than the national average (98.1%). This is the fourteenth year running that it has been above 99%.

Of Worcester Sixth Form College's 600 A Level candidates this year:

  • 595 (99.2%) gained at least one A Level;
  • 84 (14.0%) gained 3 B grades or better;
  • 22 students gained 3 A grades or better;
  • 57 A* grades were achieved by 40 students;
  • 42 subjects out of the 48 taken (87.5%) had a 100% pass rate.

Worcester Sixth Form College is the largest sixth form in Worcestershire (state or independent). These excellent results, achieved across entries in 48 subjects, are significantly above the national average, despite the fact that the College operates a truly comprehensive admissions policy, including a number of students who have not been allowed to enter local school sixth forms or have not succeeded in local independent schools.

Principal, Michael Kitcatt, said: "I am delighted with the excellent results that our students have achieved again this year. This is the fourteenth consecutive year that our A Level pass rate has been above national average and this is a tribute to the hard work of our students and the dedication and expertise of our staff.
