Welcome to Landau Forte Sixth Form College

Dear student,

Thank you for your interest in Post 16 studies at Tamworth Sixth Form Academy.

The information in this booklet is designed to help you make informative decisions about your future. The available options and entry requirements are outlined, along with detailed information on each subject available to Sixth Form students.

It is important that you examine these subject pages carefully, particularly concentrating on the subjects you are interested in studying at Sixth Form.

If you have any queries regarding your choices, please email us:

At the academy we are committed to providing you with the best quality education to enable you to move, confidently, onto University, Apprenticeship or Employment. We have a very wide range of Level 3 courses available coupled with re-take GCSE courses in English and Mathematics. This should enable you to select the appropriate range of courses for your individual requirements.

When qualifying to study AS subjects, BTEC Level 2 qualifications (Merit or above) will only be counted in place of one GCSE subject. This is because they are not considered to have the required breadth of study necessary for the demands of a varied combination of subjects.

Students will follow one of the following pathways in Year 12/Year 13:

Pathway 1 Five AS Levels/Four or Five A Levels (A/A* achieved at GCSE)

Pathway 2 Four AS Levels/Three or Four A Levels

Pathway 3 Three AS Levels & GCSE/Three A Levels

Pathway 4 BTEC & Two AS Levels/BTEC & One A Level

Pathway 5 BTEC & One AS Level & GCSE/BTEC & One A Level

To study Pathways 1 or 2, students will be expected to achieve the entrance requirement of five GCSE’s A*-C and for Pathways 3,4 or 5, three A*-C, in addition to fulfilling the entrance requirement of your chosen courses as outlined in the Course Booklet. Most students studying AS Levels will study four subjects, dropping down to three in Year 13.

All applicants are invited to attend a 15 minute discussion during February. A member of the Leadership Team will discuss with you your options, career aspirations and interests outside of your academic work. We welcome students bringing certificates and portfolios documenting progress in school, together with information about extra-curricular activities such as sporting achievements and/or community/voluntary work. Please also bring your most recent Year 11 performance report if it has been issued by your current school during this academic year.

A full range of extra-curricular activities are available to all students with Wednesday afternoon set aside for this purpose.

This establishment has all of the facilities to enable you to progress, but, more importantly, we have the highly qualified, dedicated, sixth form staff you need to enable you to have the opportunity to move your career forward.

I hope that you will attend one of our Open Events and see for yourself what we have to offer.

Dr Sarah Clark BSc PhD NPQH
