Welcome to Parkfield School

Parkfield School is an all-through (age 4 to 18) co-educational school offering a fresh appraoch and choice that allows pupils to discover learning, unlock their potential, find their place in their community and play their part in society.

The school opened for the first time in September 2013 and aims to bring quality alternative education for the children of Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole.

As a Free School, Parkfield is funded directly from central Government. This means that it is independent from Local Authority control and parents do not have to pay for their children to be educated at the school.

Parkfield School is currently situated in temporary accomodation at Dorset House in central Bournemouth with renovation and building work currently taking place at our new permanent site close to Hurn which will be ready in September 2015.

Parkfield School is part of the Government’s ‘Free Schools’ programme that allows local people to shape schools in line with what they consider to be beneficial to improving education for children in their community. Our ethos is simple – to nurture, inspire and enable. To do so we blend a primary curriculum based on Montessori principles with a secondary education provided through the International Baccalaureate programme. We let pupils find themselves and then equip them with the skills and learning they need to find their way in modern society.

Parkfield School will offer a genuine alternative education and allow greater choice to the local communities of Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole.  At Reception and Key Stage 1 the pupils will be taught using the Montessori method, at Key Stage 2 we will be offering the International Primary Curriculum and in the Secondary sector of the school we will be offering the International Baccalaureate. Students in the secondary sector of the school will also take GCSE courses.

Parkfield School offers a fresh approach to education in the local area that allows our pupils to discover learning, unlock their potential, find their place in their community and play their part in society.

Offering an international curriculum combining the Montessori method and International Primary Curriculum at the Primary stage and the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years and Diploma Programmes at Secondary, this all-through school aims to prepare students for life in an ever changing and increasingly global society.

Parkfield School offers a positive, safe learning environment for its community, in which everyone has equal and individual recognition and respect. We celebrate success and are committed to the continuous improvement and fulfilment of potential in every student regardless of their ability.

We encourage increasing independence and self-discipline amongst the students helping them to develop the skills that they need to become life long learners. Everyone within the school has an important role to play in sharing responsibility for the development of positive behaviour and attitudes.
