Welcome to Wood Green School
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Wood Green School.
We are a thriving, co-educational 11-18 school which serves the town of Witney and many of its surrounding villages on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds in Oxfordshire.
The school’s spacious site has benefited from rapid improvements in recent years . Our excellent facilities are enjoyed by our students and many outside groups, and these will continue to develop as our town grows. We truly are a school at the heart of its community.
At the heart of our school are our students. The school prides itself on the strong academic and pastoral support it provides; every child joins a Learning Community, “a school within a school”, and every child is known as an individual. Wood Green School has a well-deserved reputation for valuing the whole child and ensuring that our students are happy. Our curriculum and extensive range of extra-curricular activities give every student the opportunity to flourish, to develop existing talents and to discover new ones. Wood Green students develop the skill of interacting with each other, vital for success in the 21st century. We insist that all our students have high aspirations and recognise that our students must aim to be the very best they can be, academically as well as in extra-curricular activities.
At sixteen, the majority of our students stay in our excellent Sixth Form and then progress on to study a wide array of subjects at university, or to employment. Others choose college or work-based education, benefiting from our strong links with Abingdon and Witney College.
We are a truly inclusive school, providing a small learning unit for students with Moderate Learning Difficulties; we also share our site with Springfield School.
We strongly encourage links with parents and the community, and you are welcome to contact us to arrange a visit. In 2013-14 we mark Wood Green School’s 60th anniversary. Come and help us to celebrate and see why students and staff are so proud of our school!
Our Sixth Form is a thriving, vibrant and active community of some 200 students, which continues to attract applicants from many other schools. There is a friendly, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in which students feel at home. We offer an extensive choice of over 30 subjects at AS and A2, including new vocational courses from September 2014.
In the recent Ofsted inspection (October 2013), all Sixth Form teaching observed was judged to be either good or outstanding.
