Welcome to Brackenhurst at NTU (Nottingham Trent University)

Choosing your next steps post-16 can be an exciting as well as challenging time.

Brackenhurst is a unique provision in Nottinghamshire. We provide further education courses (level three) in Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Management, Horse Management and Wildlife Conservation.

We are proud that in 2014 we achieved a ‘good grade’ from OFSTED with some outstanding features, such as our “strategies in promoting and raising students’ awareness of employability skills and providing them with the insight and industry knowledge they require to gain good quality employment” (OFSTED 2014).

Thanks to our skilled, experienced, supportive and dedicated staff we are able to offer exceptional courses. We aim to deliver the best possible vocational training for a career in the land-based industries.

About us

Brackenhurst is a leading provider of college-level courses (Level 3 BTECs) in agriculture, animal sciences, equine sciences and horticulture.

We’re based 14 miles outside Nottingham, on the outskirts of Southwell. A dedicated 200-hectare farm and woodland estate, our rural campus provides the perfect outdoor classroom. We’ve offered specialist courses for more than 50 years.

Our courses are hands-on, give you loads of practical experience and can lead to a career in the subject you love. What’s more, as part of Nottingham Trent University, we offer great progression routes on to the University’s degree courses.

Facilities available

Our courses are taught in some of the best facilities around. We’ve invested over £20 million at Brackenhurst campus, creating the perfect place for you to learn. Our facilities include:

  • Animal Unit – home to more than 200 animals of over 60 different species.
  • Equestrian Centre – including stabling for 65 horses, international size indoor and outdoor riding arenas and a horse walker.
  • 200-hectare working farm – with specialist equipment and workshops.
  • Modern glasshouses – alongside polytunnels and a Victorian walled garden.
  • A brand new library.
