Welcome to Outwood Academy Newbold

Our outstanding support, care and guidance ensures our learners progress onto their chosen destinations whether they be university, apprenticeship, college or employment. Putting “Students First” is at the heart of everything we do. We therefore focus on supporting our students in their academic studies and developing them as individuals so they have the appeal that universities and employers desire.

Developing student’s curriculum vitaes or UCAS statements is a key priority and from Year 12 we offer many opportunities to broaden students’ experiences. For example, many students as part of the enrichment programme have the opportunity to undertake work experience as part of their course in local primary schools, the wider community and within the Academy itself.

Sixth Form students are the senior students within the Academy and are expected to act as effective role models to all younger students. They have additional rights and responsibilities that reflects their status. We challenge our Sixth Form students academically and we expect our students to rise to these challenges, meet our high expectations and uphold our Academy values.

As an inclusive Post 16 provider, we believe we have a curriculum that suits the needs of our learners and our only entrance requirement is a “willingness to learn”.

We very much look forward to joining you in the most crucial time of your education. Should you have any questions regarding our Sixth Form provision or you would like to arrange a visit to view our facilities then please do not hesitate to contact us at the Academy.

About us

We are keen that all Sixth Form students study a range of academic subjects and have experience of enrichment opportunities that develop their maturity, confidence, communication and social skills.

Independent study forms part of the student’s contract upon joining our Sixth Form. We recognise that students are entering one of the most intensive times of their educational life, the move from GCSE to A Level is challenging and our class sizes and high teacher/student ratios are designed to support this transition.

Enrichment Opportunities
At Outwood Academy Newbold we actively encourage all Sixth Form students to take part in one or more of the many enrichment opportunities on offer.

Work experience
This can be arranged and is bespoke to the student. We work with a variety of training providers, who can support us in providing sector specific work experience where necessary.

Student Voice Ambassadors
Student Voice is an integral part of everything that occurs within the Academy. We want to hear the views of students and the Sixth Form students are in particular at the forefront of this. Our SV Ambassadors are skilled in guiding discussions and representing the views of students to the Academy leadership.

Charity Fundraising
All our Sixth Form Students are encouraged to actively contribute in creative ways to raising funds for our chosen charity (which is decided each year by a vote). We welcome other fundraising ideas for other causes and all are considered for support.

Sixth Form Prom
The prom is organized by a committee of current Year 13 students and never fails to provide a high point to the end of year celebrations. All Sixth Form students, from years 12 and 13 are invited to attend.

Facilities available

The wider package of resources at Newbold plays an important part in developing independent learners. We have a reading room with access to computers and iPads for use in our common room, as well as a fully resourced Careers and Reference Library.

Additional support

As with all other year groups in the Academy, student support underpins all achievement, monitoring and intervention that occurs at Newbold.

Praising Stars © is a core element that ensures an outstanding level of identification, intervention and impact that pervades all aspects of the Sixth Form. Five times a year, individual teaching staff; Heads of Department; the Sixth Form Learning Manager and Senior Leadership Team collaboratively review the progress of each individual student towards meeting their targets and learning goals.

The Sixth Form Team works within a strong praise culture and students are regularly rewarded for putting in the required effort to be successful. Students will experience a plethora of strategies to motivate them to achieve.

The individual advice and guidance a student receives is key to them achieving their Post 18 aspirations. The advice and guidance in the Sixth Form is designed around individual student needs to ensure they are supported in achieving their life-long goals.

The support team are committed to supporting students over the next two years on a range of issues including some of the more complex personal or social matters that can affect some young people. Our ultimate aim is to ensure our learners achieve their potential and are able to progress onto their own chosen pathway.
