Welcome to DSLV E-ACT Academy
Our values at DSLV are at the centre of our work. We expect all staff and pupils to uphold our values and model them through the ways in which they conduct themselves and communicate with others.
Our Values Statement: It is important that all of our young people have a sense ofbelonging to an active community, that they share friendship and show respect for themselves and others both inside and outside DSLV. We expect all to learn how to takeresponsibility for their own actions and learning, develop independence and the ability to make good decisions that affect themselves and others and to show ambition for their own life and the future.
At DSLV Senior and Sixth Form we have an excellent Sports Hall and Stage Hall which can be hired by private individuals or community groups.
In September 2010, Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (formerly Danetre School) announced plans to deliver an A Level programme to a Year 12 group for the first time in over 20 years. The A Level offer was a largely traditional one – a deliberate strategy aimed at the requirements for entry onto degree programmes at university. Next year we will be running fourteen A Level courses as well as four Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas. These BTECs are equivalent to one A Level each and carry the same UCAS tariff points for those wishing to progress to university courses. The last four years have been a tremendous success and we look forward to building on this and developing further in the future.
We are interested in working with students who want to do well, will aim for success and are ambitious for the future. We encourage students to be focused; we set targets for achievement, monitor these regularly and work with the students themselves, as well as parents, to ensure that progress is made. Level 3 courses are not a soft option and we know that the competition for places at university is fierce.
In 2014, Year 13 students achieved 98% A*-E in their A Levels in and more than ever achieved A*-B grades. Many of our students have now moved onto universities across the country to study courses including Biomedical Sciences, Mathematics, Law, Creative Writing, Business Management and Forensic Studies to name a few. Notable academic successes were:
- Harry Verner who gained grades A*AB and is studying Psychology at Cardiff University
- Laura Nicholls gained A*AC and is studying Financial Mathematics at the University of Kent
- Marcus Garnham gained AAB and is at Nottingham University studying a 4 Year Physics degree course
- Oliver Garnham gained ABB and is now at Surrey University studying Biochemistry
This really is an exciting opportunity. We know that students do well when they have clear aims, work with teachers who know them and have support from both home and school. I would urge all students to think about their ambitions, choose subjects that match this, suit their interests and that they will enjoy. Year 12 and 13 will pass quickly but they will be tremendously rewarding as it is during Post-16 courses that you begin to really get inside topics.
