Welcome to NPL Football Academy (Lancaster City FC)

"We are proud to be leading the way again with the backing of the FA and the expertise of the guys behind the scheme. There are many academies and numerous youth leagues but the NPL Football Academy is the first to combine both.

"The NPL Football Academy will create a pool of player talent for clubs to draw upon and benefit from directly as well offering young people a fantastic path into the sporting industry through the qualifications and the real experience our clubs will be delivering.

"Not every student will go on to a career as a player and together with greater community engagement for the clubs, they'll also be playing a vital role in introducing the next generation of administrators and volunteers into sport and we hope, Non-League football."

About us

The NPL Football Academy in conjunction with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League is the first in English football to launch a youth league and academy combining football with further education.

An initial pilot programme that begins in 2014/15 will see students aged 16-18 at five clubs - Burscough, Leek Town, Mickleover Sports, Radcliffe Borough and Romulus - before expanding to 12 teams in 2015/16, studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Sport on two year courses as well as working with FA/UEFA licensed coaches on a daily basis and competing in the Evo-Stik NPL Youth League and national competitions led by the FA Youth Cup.

The programme will run alongside existing youth set-ups at participating clubs, offering the best of each year’s intake the chance to play senior Non-League football at a level that has a fantastic reputation throughout football.

The initiative which will double in size the following 2015/16 season, will be regionalised and crucially, will also generate a welcome new income stream for clubs with students learning and training on site for 18-20 hours per week.

    • During the close season of the 2006-07 season the club was taken over by a ‘mysterious’ backer that eventually became fatal as the bailiffs moved in. A shareholders committee was formed to run the affairs of the club. In order to survive it was decided to put the Club into Administration and relegation from the Conference North. The club continued and was reformed as Lancaster City FC Limited and then became founder members of the restructured Unibond League First Division North for the 2007-08 season that ended in a mid-table position.

The following year the Dolly Blues improved and were just three points short of that fifth and final play-off position. In 2009-10 a further improvement was made in what was the last season of a 17 year Unibond League Sponsorship. But that illusive promotion drive ended, having topped the league for much of the season, with only two minutes remaining of the last game of the season with a penalty in the play-off final against Colwyn Bay, a team 21 points behind City. The team did win a Trophy with the League Fair Play Award but was a scant reward.

The Club ended last season with three trophies but fell just three points short of a league play-off place. The President's Cup was deservedly won after defeating four sides from the top five. The prestigious F.A. National Fair Play and Respect Award, representing clubs from Tiers 1 to 4, was won, and the League Fair Play Award retained.
