Welcome to County Durham Council

Apprenticeships and volunteering

An apprenticeship can give you on-the-job experience and training, as well as a salary and nationally recognised qualifications. If you're looking to boost your CV, you should also consider volunteering.

Apprenticeships with the council

We offer apprenticeships in a variety of work areas from business admin and IT to electricians. Find details of existing apprenticeship opportunities on our current job vacancies and apprenticeships pages.

Apprenticeships in County Durham

We support local businesses to take on apprentices, offering incentives to recruit young people from County Durham.

Workforce Development - information for businesses

We may be able to help your business with funding to take on an apprentice or by providing the training for them to become fully qualified. See our workforce skills page for more details.

Try something completely new, add experience to your CV and boost your job prospects by volunteering with the council. Our volunteering opportunities include:

  • archaeological digs and museums
  • festival and events marshals
  • helping to protect and maintain our countryside
  • supporting sport across the county
