Additional support

Rydal Penrhos scholarships and bursaries

Please note: bursaries and scholarships are only eligible for pupils new to the senior school.

The school offers scholarship and bursary awards for entry into the Sixth form. These are determined by the entrance examination, scholarship exam (academic ability awards only), an interview with the Headmaster and, where appropriate, a practical assessment of the candidate’s proficiency in his or her chosen area:

  • Academic ability
  • Art
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Sport

The closing date for bursary and scholarship applications usually falls in mid-January prior to the September of intended entry. However, late applications for full fee paying places can still be considered.

Forces discounts

Forces bursaries are available on application for boarding, and the school is also eligible for the North Wales Day Allowance. Services families at RAF Valley who are presently sending their children to the school would be happy to talk to prospective parents and children about their experiences.

How to apply

If you want to apply for courses, you will need to contact Rydal Penrhos directly.

    • The school is 75 minutes drive from Manchester and Liverpool airports, which are accessed easily by the A55 road. There is a direct rail link between Colwyn Bay and London Euston, and a good rail service to Holyhead for ferries to and from Ireland. There are school bus routes from as far west as Anglesey, down the Conwy and Clwyd valleys, and as far east as Northop. Bus routes are planned according to demand and location of pupils.

Colwyn Bay lies in an area that is rich in culture and history and enjoys a spectacular setting between the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park and the Irish Sea. Castles, crags, beaches and cities such as Chester, Liverpool and Manchester are on our doorstep, and we make the most of our surroundings to enrich the educational experience of all our pupils.
