Welcome to Crewe Engineering and Design UTC

The purpose of the UTC is very clear; to meet the challenges of thefuture we need many more talented young people coming into industry. Everyone at the UTC will provide outstanding opportunities for young people to develop skills for employment in engineering, design and manufacturing. We will give every student exciting and challenging learning experiences, leading to outstanding progress and the ability to thrive in their chosen careers.

Engineering plays a critical role in economic regeneration and the skills gap identified in our region is a challenge I’m looking forward to having a role in addressing. The UTC is a unique opportunity for young people to explore careers with our local employers and set themselves up for their futures.

Employers need a wide range of highly skilled young men and women; some will have great specialist technical skills, some will be highly academic, some will be excellent project managers, some will be skilled designers and problem solvers, some will be skilled programmers. The UTC plans to make sure that all our students have the best ‘hands-on’ learning experiences to help them prepare for a wide range of employment.

Laying the foundations in engineering and design, Crewe Engineering & Design UTC will be there every step of the way for students through the key stages of their education and helping to provide a clear onward learning path either through further education, university or the workplace.

Facilities available

The Francis Webb building has undergone an amazing refurbishment, transforming it in to a facility which can offer students the best for their practical learning.

The building features:

  • An engineering and fabrication workshop, kitted out with latest equipment
  • A large design space including a CAD suite
  • Several classrooms, labs and computer suites
  • Café
  • Two dining areas
  • Two playgrounds
  • A gym with a variety of high quality machines

In September 2017, our second building will be completed, and the Francis Webb building will become a hub for Engineering and sixth form. All other subjects will move to the new build, and will still offer students the same high level state-of-the-art facilities to help progress and develop their education.
