We offer 28 different A Level subjects, as well as a programme of GCSEs (Access to A Levels)
Our subjects include some of those which you might not have had the opportunity to study at school, including Classics, Psychology, Law, Geology and Economics
Our teachers, many of whom are A Level examiners for national awarding bodies, only teach 16-19 year olds. This allows them to focus their skills, knowledge and experience on making sure our students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Newcastle Sixth Form College is the only purpose-built sixth form college in the city, providing a world-class learning environment for our students.
Our state-of-the-art building, which opened in 2013, includes:
- Over 300 computers in open plan study areas for students to use.
- A well stocked library.
- Debating chamber.
- State-of-the-art Performance Studio.
- Student shop.
- Costa Coffee outlet.
- Art & Design Studio.
- Photography darkroom.
Our Learning Mentor team can offer support to any student who is experiencing difficulties at College or at home.
They work confidentially on a one to one to basis to help our students resolve a wide range of difficulties and have access to a number of specialist support agencies that are available locally.
Preparation for life after Newcastle Sixth Form College
Our students also have access to a Progression Co-ordinator, and a Careers Advisor.
Our Progression Co-ordinator is on hand to offer advice and guidance on applying to university and the UCAS process, as well as organising our successful annual Higher Education Progression Fair.
They are also experienced in offering support and guidance to students who choose to take part in additional further education opportunities, such as the Sutton Trust US Programme.
In 2015, 77% of our students progressed to university
Some of the universities include; Newcastle University, UCL, Durham University, Bristol University, University of York, University of Exeter, University of Edinburgh, University of Birmingham, University of Manchester, University of Liverpool and University of Leeds.
Courses include; Law, Photography, International Business Management, Economics and Finance, Psychology, BioPharmaceutical Science, Politics, Chemistry, English Language, Nursing, Zoology, Computer Science, Astrophysics and Fashion Journalism.
We have a dedicated Careers Advisor who's main role is to support all students with their decisions around transition after college, but to particularly support those students that are considering less traditional progression routes. This could includes students who are considering apprenticeships and other forms of training or vocational education.
