CAPA College provides full-time Arts training and education to students aged 16-19 and aims to inspire, train and educate the next generation of performers, creatives, designers and technicians.

CAPA College's team of top professional teachers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, designers and technicians alongside industry standard facilities ensures that CAPA College delivers the highest quality training, education and pastoral guidance to support talented students who are serious about pursuing a career in the Arts.

About us

CAPA College provides students with intensive full-time practical training alongside the rigour of academic Arts study.  This combination of professional training and academia ensures that students develop the skills, training, experience, knowledge, understanding and qualifications to progress to higher education.  This training is an excellent platform for students to progress on to studying at vocational Arts conservatoires or universities or go straight into Arts based employment.

CAPA College's professional approach and ethos continues to be maintained throughout all aspects of its provision.  Alongside an outstanding curriculum and excellent teaching, students gain extensive experience performing throughout the UK and working alongside professional artists, companies and theatre venues.

CAPA College: An inspiring legacy. An exciting future

Since its formation in 2006, CAPA College has developed a regional and national reputation as a centre of excellence in the Arts with consistently 'Outstanding' judgements from Ofsted, excellent exam results, exceptional student progression routes and critically acclaimed, award-winning performances.

This year CAPA College has opened as a DFE-funded Free School within the Enhance Academy Trust.  This will enable CAPA College's outstanding legacy to develop and expland allowing even more talented, creative young people from across Yorkshire and the North of England to gain access to the highest quality of Arts training and education.  CAPA College will be moving to its own purpose-built premises on Mulberry Way, Wakefield (opposite Wakefield Westgate train station) in September 2020.  Until then, CAPA College is renting temporary accommodation in the excellent Performing Arts facilities at Cathedral Academy, Wakefield.

In September 2019 CAPA College will offer four specialist course pathways *:

Performing Arts: Musical Theatre course pathway - Full-time Dance, Drama and Singing training and education leading to the following qualification package:

Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre)

A level Dance

A level Drama

Dance: Contemporary and Commercial course pathway - Full-time Dance training and education leading to the following qualification package:

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance)

A level Dance

Drama: Stage and Screen course pathway - Full-time Drama training and education leading to the following qualification package:

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting)

A level Drama

Production Arts: Theatre, Film and Media course pathway - Full-time Production, Design, Technical Theatre and Creative Media training and education leading to the following qualification package:

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production

Facilities available

As a new DFE-funded Free School within the Enhance Academy Trust, CAPA College will be moving to its own purpose-built premises on Mulberry Way, Wakefield in September 2020.  During the development of the new CAPA College premises, the provision will temporarily be based in the Performing Arts facilities at Cathedral Academy, Wakefield. 

Additional support


CAPA College has a resident team of top professional teachers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, designers and technicians with extensive links to the Arts sector.  The team have consistently been judged as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.  Students also regularly work with nationally and internationally renowned resident and visiting artists and companies thus experiencing different artistic approaches, styles and methods.

Guidance and support

CAPA College's pastoral guidance is of the highest quality.  Students are assigned a personal tutor and receive regular group and individual tutorial guidance.  CAPA College's student support centre is always available to provide additional guidance on financial, emotional, health and welfare issues.

In preparation for post-18 study or employment, CAPA College students receive extensive support and training on careers, college and university applications, auditions and interviews.  This is provided in both group and individual tutorials.  The staff have a wealth of specialist Arts knowledge and expertise along with extensive links to the higher education and professional Arts sector and therefore provide bespoke advice and support for each student.  CAPA College students are fully equipped, confident and fully supported in the transition to higher education study or employment.

Learner success


CAPA College are proud that all students have graduated with 100% pass rate and 100% acceptance at first choice higher education establishments.  CAPA College alumni are now studying at the leading Arts conservstoires, colleges and universities in the UK and internationally as well as working professionally as performers, teachers, designers, technicians, chorographers, directors, musical directors and arts managers.

Laine Theatre Arts, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Central School of Speech and Drama, Rambert School, Urdang Academy, LAMDA, Arts Educational School, GSA, The Place, London Studio Centre, Bird College, NSCD, LIPA, Trinity Laban, Institute of the Arts Barcelona and Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp are just a handful of the prestigious establishments to which recent CAPA College graduates have successfully gained places.

CAPA College has achieved consistently strong results.  With 2018 results the best yet:

All CAPA College students have always achieved the grades they require to successfully progress to their first choice higher education destination.
