Welcome to Philips Hair Salons (Academy)
Philips Hair Academy aims to offer high quality hairdressing and barbering training provision for 16 to 24 year olds (priority is given to 16-17 year olds) through our apprenticeship programmes, giving young people the chance to enter into one of the most exciting, enjoyable and vibrant industries in the world.
Our Apprenticeship programmes take place within both the salon environment and the academy, focusing on the practical skills needed to work in a busy salon. The team aims to produce quality stylists for hairdressing salons across the region and also provide information, advice and guidance about how to gain status in other areas of the industry, such as fashion work, competitions, media work, working abroad etc.
As hairdressing employers ourselves we know what salons need in a stylist. That's why our apprenticeship programme offers: One full day a week in our Academy for both theory and practical sessions. Access every week to our database of over 200 models. Small class sizes (no more than 15) for individualised tuition. A working salon environment in which to learn, far removed from school/college. Training from tutors who are still active stylists themselves.
- We offer training in purpose built salons within Wakefield Centre and Leeds City Centre
- Job Vacancies notice-board
- Access to computer/Internet
All learners receive individual support tailored to their needs. Their progress is reviewed on a regular basis throughout the programme and necessary arrangements are made to adapt to individual requirements where possible.
We have MANY successful learners who have studied at Philips Hair Academy.
One learner has gone on to work on a regular breakfast television show, as the resident celebrity stylist in New Zealand.
We have several learners who have taken part in doing the model's hair at London, Paris and New York fashion weeks and the Clothes Show Live.
We have several learners who have gone on to do their hairdressing work abroad.
We have several big competition winners, such as the L'Oreal Colour Trophy.
One learner achieved national recognition by being chosen from hundreds of applicants to be part of the prestigious Clynol Protégé Team and in doing so has become their youngest ever member. One of the prizes for this success was the opportunity of being trained by former British Hairdresser of the Year, Lisa Shepherd.
These are just a few success stories; we have numerous learners who have gone on to own their own salons, become assessors and even hairdressing tutors themselves.
